I am so sick of hours long inset with no new content, and mostly just new vocabulary for old content. All it teaches me about teaching is how boring it can be to listen to people droning on, and how utterly frustrating and useless it is to be told to actively participate in their rubbish.
But I learn so much more about teaching from sitting in a lesson learning something new, like a language or skill. It reminds me what is engaging, encouraging, manageable, etc.
Lets chuck away all teacher inset, and instead give teachers an option of which adult education course they would like to do for a year, for the same hours, online, or in person, only stipulation, it is not related to their specialist subject.
I think this would be a lot more productive
