To pay 30 GBP for a Rack of Lamb?

Yesterday I pre-ordered a rack of lamb at local butchers to feed 5 people. I'm currently waiting for butcher to wrap it up and he's just said it'll be 30 GBP's as it's Spring lamb! Does that sound really pricey or what would you expect to pay?

I would say that’s about right, it’s the most expensive cut of lamb.

CityCommuter · 04/05/2024 14:15

Thank you? I really didn't think a rack was that expensive as we often have a roast leg of lamb which is around the same price...

Sounds like a bargain if it’s enough for 5

CommeIlFaut · 04/05/2024 14:22

That’s pretty cheap for a rack of lamb to feed 5. It would be more than that st our farm shop.

Just had a quick look at some supermarket prices and racks of lamb are roughly double the price of legs per kg.

BoobyDazzler · 04/05/2024 14:26

Sure it’s not £30 per KG?

StiggyZardust · 04/05/2024 14:27

Leg of lamb was £40 in Tesco's yesterday, so that sounds about right

mynameiscalypso · 04/05/2024 14:27

I think that sounds like good value. I'd expect to pay more at our butcher's.

Mynewnameis · 04/05/2024 14:28

Yes I'd be happy with that price

ILikePistachios · 04/05/2024 14:29

Sounds about right, I purchased a leg in Sainsbury's last month which was £27

This needs a Homer Simpson dribbling meme

Rack of lamb is exactly £30 per kg in Sainsbury’s.

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2024 15:31

Would be considered very cheap at our butchers, it’s probably the most expensive cut of lamb (we can only have it when the dds aren’t here as they hate lamb 😱).

longdistanceclaraclara · 04/05/2024 15:32

Trimmed? Sounds relatively cheap

FiveLamps · 04/05/2024 15:33

Yeah that sounds on the cheap side for lamb.

Words · 04/05/2024 15:39

Definitely a good buy.

Unprecedentedusername · 04/05/2024 15:46

Will that be enough for 5 people?

taxguru · 04/05/2024 15:53

How little do you value the life of a lamb? Not just that but the farmer's costs to rear it, transport and abatoir costs, butchers time etc. We need to start paying the right price for our food and not expect bargain basement prices. Everyone in the production chain has to earn a living.
