AIBU to put this in a reference I provide

I've been asked to provide a reference for someone who used to work for me.

Would it be really crass of me to congratulate the company for securing his services and tell them they're lucky to have him? Or is that a bit OTT?

No, that’s lovely x

I would if you really mean it, or are you being sarcastic ? As that could be taken either way lol

Or maybe that's just me as I am very sarcastic

No that would be really nice. Do it.

I wouldn’t say so, unless the previous part of the reference was in context to the sarcasm.

My old boss did that in my reference (he sent it to my to review beforehand). I was really touched.

Ok thanks peeps I'm gonna put that.

Fact is, they ARE lucky to have him. It's a care company so I really hope they treat him well and don't dump on him. I can't say that though Grin

Not OTT at all - if that's the way you feel about his work, it's fine to say that.

One of my previous employers put something really nice in a reference for me, and when I started my new job, my boss there said 'Your old boss was so lovely about you in your reference that it's made me so excited about having you in my team'. It genuinely really helped me and the new boss get off to a good start working together.
