To ask here for techy advice?!

So the backstory is that my ds has not only looked up adult themed games but also entered his bank details and set up a subscription for the site. He felt bad, fessed up and told me he doesn't want his smart phone anymore...

I'm proud of him owning his mistakes and also for wanting to remove the point of temptation. However as easy as it would be to get a dumb phone, I just can't see it working. He needs to get public transport, so he uses time table app for live info, for Google classroom, online banking etc.

So, wise mumsnetters, any advice? We have Google family link and he's clearly got around it. Is there anything else I can do?

I've looked online before posting and all the safety advice says install family link..Then when I searched my kid has got around it, the answers were, some kids are savvy enough to get around it...but no suggestions as to solve it!

Posting here as I need to make a decision soon as currently he's just banned from phone but that's not practical and want to sort this asap.
Any tech savvy people out there? And whilst I'm asking, how long would you confiscate phone if at all?

People can get around without smart phones quite easily. Online banking can be done on another device at home, same for Google classrooms etc. In terms of using public transport, you just show up at the bus stop and wait. You don't need to know live timetable.
I don't know if I would confiscate the phone but he said himself that he doesn't want one so let him get on with it.
