To not understand this return policy

It’s 30th April. You log into your account to get a barcode to return an item. The website says you have “one day left” to return it.

Would you expect to have to drop it off at the store today, 30th April? Or would “one day left” imply that you could return it tomorrow on 1st May?

I'd play it safe and return it today, assuming time runs out at midnight.

HappiestSleeping · 01/05/2024 11:20

When did you buy it? If it had a 14 day return policy that runs out on 30th, then it runs out on 30th (or whatever time).

If you only bought it on 29th April, then yes, it's unreasonable.

No idea when I bought it. I thought the return window might have expired, but when I logged in at 10pm on 30th April it said “one day left”.

The question is, what does “one day left” mean?

I'd take 'one day left' to mean it's the last day you could return it

HappiestSleeping · 01/05/2024 11:26

Logically, one day left would mean 1 day from 30th, so until the 1st May.

Knowing how computers work (or are programmed), that could well mean by the 30th April.

I would take it back today if you are going to and hope for the best.

FakeMiddleton · 01/05/2024 11:26

If you bought online, then I'd take it as "one day left to request a refund" ie get the barcode/shipping label or whatever

Moveoverdarlin · 01/05/2024 11:27

How can you have no idea when you bought it? It will say on your emails / invoice / order confirmation. My guess is you bought it around April 2nd and you have 24 hours left from when you submitted the returns claim to get it back to shop. So on April 30th one day left to return it is WEDNESDAY 1st MAY. As in TODAY.

This is why I’m puzzled. There wasn’t one day left. There was two hours left until midnight and obviously the shop was already closed. So I thought “one day left” meant the next day.

It would have been clearer if it said Last day to return: 30th April (or 1st May).

It would have, but agree that knowing how computers work it's probably reset at midnight. If you think about it as 1st May is 0 days left to return it might be a bit clearer. I'd chance my arm anyway, you might get store credit at least.
