Even herbivores have been seen eating meat when they find it.

What, cows and horses eat meat?

Soubriquet · 30/04/2024 09:34

They will happily nibble on bones if they can get to them

What, cows and horses eat meat?

Cows were fed beef slurry, which is supposedly how BSE started.

TwelveAngryWhiskers · 30/04/2024 09:35

I’m pretty sure pandas are 100% plant (bamboo) based Grin

Lovelylydia · 30/04/2024 09:41

Veganism is a philosophy which humans follow.
Whilst many animals are herbivores, they aren’t capable of making such moral choices. They may eat other animal products to survive if their plant based choices aren’t available.

NeverEnoughPants · 30/04/2024 09:47

Veganism isn't just about what you eat.

I would be very surprised if there were any animals other than humans that would have considered the morality that veganism encompasses. If someone fed animals that are herbivores food that contained honey, for example, I doubt they would refuse it based on ethics.

justaboutdonenow · 30/04/2024 09:50

Animal's aren't vegan because vegan is a human constructed philosophy.

They are herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, that can be further divided into frugivores, detritivores, granivores etc.

They will eat outside of these constraints to gain additional nutrients.

If I don't pick up my dogs' faeces first thing I get butterflies landing on them as they are rich in minerals.

Of course animals aren't "vegan".
Just as animals aren't Christians or communists or pacifists. Veganism isn't simply a dietary category.
What point are you trying to make?

DrJoanAllenby · 30/04/2024 09:56

Giraffes only eat plants but if an insect is on a leafy then they are going to crunch that as well.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/04/2024 09:57

I think vegan humans would quickly stop being vegan if they didn’t have a choice due to war, famine etc.

No animals rides the rollercoaster or the tea cups at Blackpool Pleasure Beach either.

What's your point?

I was talking to a horse in Burger King after the pub on Saturday and he was definitely ordering the veggie burger.
