Dog groomer stoned and smoking around dogs

I've been taking my dog to the same groomer for about the last 3 years. Never had any issues. She works from premises she rents from a family member.

I arrived at 10.05 after she'd told me to come "10/10.30ish". She wasn't there but her dad was (it makes her sound young but she's 25ish). He looked a bit awkward, obviously wasn't expecting me and called her, asking where she was. She said to leave my dog there and she'd be there in 5 minutes. I decided to wait as dog was super anxious, to ensure he wasn't left alone.

She turned up 40 minutes later, full of apologies, absolutely stinking of weed, red watery eyes, absolutely, completely stoned. I was taken aback, wasn't sure what to do but left him in her care, figuring he wasn't in any danger but knowing that would be the last time I would ever be leaving him.

She text a while later to ask me to collect him, which I did but as soon as I reached the property, I could smell weed again. Strongly - she'd clearly been smoking more whilst carrying out the groom of my dog and another which had been dropped off in my absence.

She said they'd been cuddled up on a bed she has in there which is totally out of character for my dog. He's definitely more of a humans dog than a dogs dog and would never just curl up with any dog, let alone one he's just met.

I was so furious I just paid and left. But now I'm angry at myself for not saying anything. In hindsight, I should never have left him there in the first place, but seeing as she'd clearly just had a joint when she arrived, I never imagined she'd have had another whilst she was with my dog in the hour it took to groom him.

I suppose I don't really know what to do about it now but it keeps playing on my mind.

I just wouldn’t take him back. Plenty of dog groomers around. I have worked as a groomer and I can’t see how being stoned would help - you do things like trim around their eyes with scissors, have to gauge exactly where to cut their claws to avoid the quick…it’s precision work and being stoned wouldn’t be a good idea.

I’m also concerned that your dog was left loose with another dog - we would only ever put dogs from the same household in the same crate/enclosure. Separating them is common sense, you can’t supervise dogs that don’t know each other as well as groom at the same time. Things can escalate quickly with dogs that are strangers, and most dogs find the groomers quite a stressful environment anyway.

I have no idea what possessed you to leave him in the first place, with the groomer clearly under the influence of drugs

I can't understand why you stood around for 40 minutes waiting for her to arrive.

I'd have taken my dog away after about 10 minutes of her non appearance, and I'd have walked away the minute I could smell weed.

I certainly wouldn't ever go back.

If she has a Facebook page leave a bad review saying she was stoned.

Did your dog have the munchies when he got home?

YABU for even leaving your dog there to start with tbh (but I think you know that). The implements groomers use are fucking sharp - she could seriously have injured your dog. She showed blatant disregard for her safety but, more importantly, your dogs.

I know dog groomers are hard to come by - but I would never take my dog there again.

I wouldn't be allowing anyone like that to groom my animals.

For me, leaving my dog with a groomer under the influence is as bad as leaving my child with someone under the influence, it just wouldn't happen. She definitely needs reporting
