To be confused about a foot rub?

What would you think if a friend of the opposite sex gave you a foot rub? Quite a long, intense, very good foot rub? Ankles and calves as well?
AIBU in thinking this isn't purely platonic?

Yeah not something I would do to a friend of the same sex let alone the opposite sex.

I’d think they were dirty sort for being happy to touch feet without being forced, bribed or coerced.

I think it can be platonic - who doesn't love a good foot rub. It is fairly intimate but if a good friend may just be friendly.
I found out a back rub is an invitation to a swingers meet at my kids swimming gala after it happened to one of the dads and one of the moms. Never knew that! (it was discussed by those in the know who explaining to those not in the know (me)!😯

How has this happened?
Are they supposed to have just pounced on me?

Being given a foot rub isn’t really just something that happens to you, is it? It’s generally preceded by mentioning that your feet are sore, your friend offering you a foot rub, you accepting a foot rub etc. If all of those stages have taken place, it’s not exactly confusing.

It might be purely platonic or it might not be. It totally depends on the two people involved.

If they were a professional sports massage therapist or reflexologist, I might, just might, think it was OK. Otherwise, profoundly weird.

I get weekly foot rubs from a male work colleague/friend, worked together 12 years, I have painful feet and ankles and he offered to give them a rub a few months back, been weekly ever since.

Definitely not sexual, we're friends only, doesn't feel weird to either of us.

Did it just feel perfunctory or was there any sort of prolonged stroking involved? I think this is a very hard act to read anything into one way or another.

I'm quite a touch-oriented person, and giving massages is a way I show love and connect. So much so that I got a qualification in Swedish massage to get better at it!
I definitely massage my friends/ family, but I wouldn't just randomly offer a foot massage unless it was somehow appropriate at the time.

Context is everything here, and we need more!

Me. Urgh. Can’t think of anything I’d want less. I put up with sports massages to help my muscles but massage isn’t relaxing or intimate for me. I loathe it.
