AIBU for feeling annoyed ?

I've had issues with exclusively breast feeding since my 9 week old baby due toungue tie and low milk supply. We have been combi feeding since day 2 as baby became so dehydrated.

Anyway cut a long story short MIL asked my dp why he was making up formula and that I should just be giving baby my breast. She seems to think breast feeding is simple as she had an easy time with it , but I've found it to be challenging . She said 'oh we didn't have all this toungue tie business in my day, you just fed your baby'.

We had Sunday lunch with her friend and she started to say to her friend loudly' well, J's daughter had double toungue tie , but she had so much milk , it dripped into baby mouth'.

I felt irritated by her saying this as im struggling to make enough milk for my son , despite pumping 8 x a day and bringing him to my breast. I walked way away from the dinner table I felt p* off.

AIBU for being upset ?

You are not being unreasonable. MIL needs to butt out.

YANBU - Your MIL needs to shut her cake hole and mind her own business!

Breastfeeding is exhausting.

Just some Qs:

Which pump are you using? I used a small one which was OK but I felt I wasn't expressing enough or producing enough milk. I then hired a hospital style one and it was SO much easier!

Also, make sure you optimise your diet for milk production - plenty of fluids too!

In the mean time, just keep going with the combi feeding and ignore your MIL!

You are not being unreasonable. I would be totally pissed her. She is completely out of order and just keep her mouth shut. I had exactly the same issues you have when trying to BF, it's disgusting how some people shame using formula.

What did you DP say on both of these occasions? He needs to be putting MIL in her place!

Ask her why she’s so fascinated with your breasts.

Ask how FiL feels about this obsession.

Ask her if breast feeding is so brilliant why did she ever stop.

And fuck J. Fuck everybody. You’re doing amazingly well.

OhBumBags · 29/04/2024 13:30

But what did you and your husband say to her about it?

Did you tell her to butt out and not to mention it again?

She shouldn't need telling but she obviously does.
