Dog poop clean up

Hi. My neighbour had a fall recently, spent some time in hospital and has been back home for a while now. I’ve been getting shopping in for her etc. while she recovers.
she has 2 small dogs who I walk for her sometimes. The problem is, she lets them out into her garden to do their business but has just had to leave the mess in the garden.
I’ve offered to clean it for her, ready for the nice weather. She was very grateful.
my issue is, how do I do this in the least vomit-inducing way?! I have a weak stomach and I’d rather not have to clean up my sick too!
theres no grass in the garden(it’s a small yard). Any tips on how I can tackle this?

Personally I find the best way is kitchen roll over the poop then hand in a plastic bag and pick it up, you won't feel the poop just the kitchen roll. It's the best way if it's been rained on. Then when you've lifted the worst of it I'd get the hose out and spray away any remnants. Even a basin of hot soapy water chucked over would be good but you'll need to lift as much as you can first or it'll just move around.

How is she doing with her recovery? I'm just thinking she will need a longer term plan if she's still not up to cleaning up after them and after a few days it could easily be like you were never there. Is boarding an option for her while she recovers?

Depending on how long her recovery is, I’ve offered to have the dogs at my house for a while. We’re calling that a plan B if her recovery is taking longer

I would leave them with her for company in case they take exception to your house and wee everywhere.

Then hold your nose and get rid of the worst and jet wash it all down. A bucket of water and a dash of bleach if you have an old sweeping brush will help give a scrub if the jet wash can't connect to the tap.

I'd leave the poo picker with her if she is mobile enough to pick it up with long handles as they go? If not, I'd make a point of it daily or as you say it will be small and horrible.

If it's dried, it will probably be dehydrated and less gloopy. I'd get gloves, lots of bags and just go at it. It's in the open air and they are little dogs. It could be worse!!

Wear rubber gloves, and just keep telling yourself "it is just mud".

get a pack of poo bags hold one bag by the handle put another over your other hand use this hand to pick up poop and place in other bag when bag is full start another once finished put bags in bin wash yard down with broom and soapy water job done

I have this spray that I bought off amazon u spray it on cat or dog poop and it freezes the poop hard so that it's easy to pick up just go on amazon and type in the search bar poop freeze it should come up with the product I swear by it.

I would have thought ‘old’ poo would be easier than ‘fresh’ 🤢. This is why I don’t have dogs and not a snowballs chance in hell I’d be looking after or cleaning up after anyone else’s dog.
Just use a shovel or a dustpan and brush (which you will promptly throw away after!) and hose down the messier ones. Urgh so disgusting I don’t know how anyone does this regularly

Bin bag inside a bin use a shovel scoop it into the bin and put a good helping of viks under your nose to reduce any smell then hose the yard down with jeyes I have the weakest stomach going aswell so I sympathise it's hard enough doing my own yard never mind someone else's

Well if you pick up after them on a walk surely you will be okay picking it up from the garden. Granted there will be more of it, but personally I can stomach picking up cold poo better than hot poo and you can use a shovel in the garden too.

I second the rake and bucket poop scoop from Amazon. You can do it all in one go without bending and it puts some space between you and it.

I’d just do it with gloves and a black sack , if it’s older poo it should be pretty solid and not particularly smelly . Then wash down and scrub the area . You are a very good neighbour and friend @Nayborhelp

Id go to poundland and buy some rubber gloves and a lonhg handled dustpan and brush that I can chuck away after and some bin bags.

People are giving advice on picking a singular poop and missing the point of your post slightly.

multiple covid masks, maybe even put some perfume on the inside of the outer one, gloves and a rake or shovel with a long handle. Sweep or shovel it into one pile and quickly transfer to a bag

It may feel horrible but it’s admirable you are helping a neighbour like this.

I worked as a reporter on a local newspaper many years ago, and for some reason we were given a box of this spray as a competition prize. We all laughed and joked we’d have no entries at all… no joke, we had more competition entries for the poo spray than we’d ever had before, even more than for the competitions with holidays and electronics as prizes!!

No they are not , they are just saying it’s easier and cleaner to pick up each pile and dump in a black sack than to be scraping / raking / sweeping which will mean that you’ve then got to either dispose of or clean up the tools . It’s really no different to poo picking a horse field where most people walk about dumping individual piles into the wheelbarrow .
