What is this rash? It’s not measles is it?

DS (13 months) came down with a temperature 4 days ago, he was seen at out of hours because it wasn’t coming down with calpol and given antibiotics for tonsillitis.

He seems much better now and hasn’t had a temperature since yesterday morning, he’s back to his usual self. However I noticed this rash changing his nappy today and am panicking about measles - he was due his MMR a few weeks ago but was unwell so I couldn’t take him and meant to rebook it (kicking myself now!).

I assume if it was measles he would be more unwell given it’s only just appeared? Should I consult GP before sending him back to nursery if it’s something infectious? Thanks

Could be a viral rash, could be scarlet fever could be because of the antibiotics.
Unfortunately with rashes it's hard to tell.
I would get him looked at tomorrow if he is ok in himself.

Could be a post viral rash. But I’d get him checked too

TipsyKoala · 28/04/2024 20:20

Post viral rash possibly, especially if he’s feeling better now.

SkyBloo · 28/04/2024 20:22

Yes can often be a bit of viral rash but safest to get it checked

Seeline · 28/04/2024 20:25

I'd say post viral or allergy to the antibiotics.
I think he would be much more poorly if it was measles.

There is a lot of scarlet fever going around which due to his sore throat, previous fever and rash I would get him checked for.

Thanks everyone. He’s fine in himself now, no temperature, charging around as normal and had a roast with all the trimmings today so hopefully he is fine! There has been a scarlet fever case in his nursery but the rash seems to have appeared a bit late for that, plus it’s a bit blotchier rather than fine and his tongue is normal. I’ll phone the GP tomorrow if only because if he’s still contagious I need to tell the nursery. Thanks again
