Missing week of wages

Bit of a dilemma. Name changed as someone from work might recognise.

I have recently had a small pay rise starting 1st April. With the pay rise, the boss has changed my method of payment from hourly to salaried. So £x divided by 12 months.

Previously paid weekly and last payment was week ending 24 March. So I’m due a week before new salary starts 1 April. I haven’t been paid for five weeks.

My boss is a toxic narcissist (long story) - no HR he just does what he likes. Small company.

If I mention he is likely to punish me in some way. Horrible jobs, withhold perks. It sounds insane but it’s real life. I’m trying to leave but struggling to find something else and can’t walk out. If I couldn’t I’d have done it years ago.

What would you do about the missing week?

If my wages didn't go into the bank on the day I was expecting, I'd have gone in on the Monday and said 'my wages didn't go in on Friday. Can you sort that out today, please?'. I certainly wouldn't wait five weeks not saying anything.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I knew my wages would change to end of the month. That’s not the problem.
problem is he’s paying from 1st April. He should be paying from 25 March.

So are you missing a week's wages or not? When is your first monthly salary paid?

NewWage · 28/04/2024 06:46

Yes, I’ll be paid at the end of the month but missing the last week of March.
It would be a pretty pointless post if i wasn’t.

How do you know it’s missing until you get paid, your pay this month should include the last week in March and all of April. I agree it would have been better to pay you the March weeks pay, then go onto monthly.

Oh nippy! Think the poster was advising your first monthly pay may include the last week of March!

Ask him if he can pay the end of March amount separately from the April amount. It’s a different financial year, so easier for tax. That way you aren’t criticising. You are just assuming he will pay it.

It also depends when your pay dates run, where I worked previously world pay (for example) 22 Feb - 22 march at the end of march, then 23 march- 22 April at the end of april
