To contact old therapist?

I saw a psychotherapist as a teenager for 3+ years about 9 years ago and I want to speak to her to get a bit of insight about how I was back then etc.

She was a trainee and I was one of her first patients so I think she'd remember me. If anything I'd just want to thank her and say hello.

AIBU and this is weird? It feels like a big chunk of my adolescence and I've often wanted to bump into her to update her on how things went for me.

I suppose my first question is whether you want to consult her as a client, or are you just emailing her to say thanks?

I think that would be a really good idea and very interesting for both of you actually actually. You'd have to treat it like a formal appointment where you pay, of course, but I can't see why she wouldn't agree to meet you.

Have you changed your name in the meantime? Obviously you have to give a notice so that she can check her notes.

Yes changed my name. I also don't know how to contact her as it was through CAMHS not privately!

Both really. As a client but also just to acknowledge the impact she had on me! I saw her 3 times a week for 3 and a half years so was quite a long process

I think she’d be pleased to hear from you.

I work with children and young people as a therapist. This did happen once and it was lovely to hear from an ex client and I was really touched. I did have to make sure the boundary was clear that we couldn’t enter into any ongoing communication (in a kind way) but I think it would be a lovely thing to do. I’m not sure they would be able to feed back how you were but may be.

I am really glad you found it helpful and things are better for you now.
