DH and I often stop by a very nice pub on a Friday night for a glass of wine and a juice with our son at the end of the week.
Tonight we decided to see if they had a table for dinner, which they did for the first seating.
We decided on the porterhouse to share (which you can imagine wasn’t exactly cheap). We usually have steaks rare but were advised by the waiter to go for medium rare - we stated we definitely wanted it on the rarer side.
It came out completely overdone. There were maybe two slices that we might’ve eaten but the rest of it was completely grey and cooked through.
We complained and the first response was “because that was the thinner end, it’s difficult to cook the two sides evenly”.
We pushed back on that and they said they would give us a free rib eye. Due to timings (with having our son with us) and the fact the original steak was so overcooked, we just asked for two ribeyes.
As it was getting late, we just needed to get the bill and pay. I picked up the receipt at the end after my husband had paid and they’d charged us for the overcooked porterhouse and for two rib eyes.
My thoughts are that there should still have been one free ribeye.
We really like this place and it’s recently been very popular in the press and want to keep a good relationship with them but interested to know other people’s thoughts.
YABU - you chose to replace the original steak, therefore you should’ve paid for all the steaks.
YANBU - one of the ribeyes should’ve been free after they offered a free one due to overcooking the first.
