To take home the hubcap if it’s still there tomorrow evening?

Here’s an unusual one for you…

Yesterday afternoon, I was driving home and saw a car accident. A couple cars were banged up, two police cars were there, there was no ambulance and no one appeared to be injured.

This morning (it’s late morning where I am), my husband and I went for a walk and I saw a hubcap on the side of that road, which I assume is from one of the cars. It had a really neat shape to it, and I make art with a lot of weird recycled stuff. It did not look damaged, and I wanted to take it home. My husband said to leave it in case someone came back for it.

Tomorrow evening, it’ll have been over 48 hours since the accident. My guess is that the people in the accident will get a new hubcap and not go searching the side of the road to find the old one. Am I unreasonable if I consider it roadside debris after 48+ hours and take it home?

If I was banged up in a car accident, it might be more than 48 hours later that I’d go looking for it. whiplash, and/or other injuries after being bounced about after a crash, can be agony.

I would not be expecting it to be there 48 hours later and usable. I would not go back.

Would you actually go looking for it, though? If I was in a car accident and a part of my car came off in the crash, I’d figure the part was probably damaged somehow and I wouldn’t spend my time trying to track down a potentially damaged car part.

I would consider you picking it up and taking it home “litter picking” and a good deed tidying up the roadside.

Go for it no one will care.

I'd pick it up. If the cats are badly damaged the hub cap will get replaced in the repair. Noones going to come back looking for it
