To find sunny weather low-mood inducing

Wavesand26 · 26/04/2024 12:38

Does anyone else find waking up to bright sunshine makes them feel low? I know lots of people who suffer from SAD in the winter months when the dark mornings and early evenings make them feel down. But I experience the opposite. I love winter and feeling cosy inside when it’s cold and rainy outside. When the spring and summer come I feel sad in the mornings when the sun is filling the bedroom with light. What on earth is wrong with me?! I genuinely don’t understand what I’m experiencing…

Sunshine makes me so extremely happy! It really brightens my mood. I don’t mind a winters day and love the odd rainy day which gives me the excuse to stay in and be cosy, but the constant rain and wind we’ve had is extremely grating now. Sorry, but for me it’s definitely bring on the sunshine time.

Yes I'm the same. Weirdly I don't mind light mornings but I really dislike hot afternoons. I just start praying for rain!

gojumpjump · 26/04/2024 12:42

Exactly the same. Hate sunny days, feel pressure to be out loving life and it also shows cobwebs I didn't realise I had.

Blackcats7 · 26/04/2024 12:48

I agree. I hate the heat plus being housebound I can cope far better when it’s horrible outside but in the spring/summer it is even more depressing that I can no longer do the outdoor things I used to.

Lammveg · 26/04/2024 12:49

I think you can get SAD the other way around

YourNimblePeachTraybake · 26/04/2024 12:52

Summer SAD.

romany4 · 26/04/2024 12:52

I agree with you..

I woke at 5 this morning. Too bright.
Working from home today and lawnmowers started at 9am. Just noise as soon as the sun comes out.
I much prefer the dark quiet Winter

I think a significant number of people feel as you do, often because it makes them feel lonely because good weather imposes an idea of ‘being out enjoying yourself in groups’.

This makes a lot of sense and is how I feel.

WendysWindyHouse · 26/04/2024 13:11

I absolutely despise the heat, it actually makes me feel quite unwell but I adore a sunny but cool day with a few fluffy clouds passing by.
Boiling hot and very bright days make me feel weird but then again so do freezing cold grey days!

louisbalfournice · 26/04/2024 18:20

Totally agree with OP. I detest summer

Topsy44 · 26/04/2024 18:59

I do know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like this in the midst of Summer, when the weather gets uncomfortably hot and being constantly woken up early by strong sunlight.
I think for me it is linked to feeling like I should be constantly outside in a group of family with friends having a bbq somewhere but I am a lone parent who likes her own space and loves pottering about inside so those things don’t really match up!!

YeahComeOnThen · 26/04/2024 19:00

I'm sorry you feel this way.

I love it, once it's more often sunny than not. Too much pressure on one off sunny days. The birds start before 4am and I want to get up & out. Whereas when it's dark I just want to snuggle & sleep.

im sorry you don't get the same enjoyment out of it!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/04/2024 19:05

I am the same OP,I find bright sunshine intrusive almost. I love bright cold days but no heat.

Ponderingwindow · 26/04/2024 19:06

I hate heat. I sunburn extremely quickly on even the lowest UV days. I just bought some super dark sunglasses to help combat the headaches I am getting every time I step outside.

i spend as much time as possible indoors cursing the world and working on my evil plans to blot out the sun.

in seriousness, I wear clothing with spf and sometimes resort to walking around with an umbrella on sunny days. I do spend far too much time googling places I could move with high density cloud cover and many foggy days.

Greywitch2 · 26/04/2024 19:06

No, you folks are lunatics. 😁

I'm desperate for some sunshine. Absolutely sick of the cold and the rain. I shall be much more cheerful once we get nice bright days!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/04/2024 19:09

I must admit, the other day when it was really cold and raining, I thought, ‘Oh, good, I won’t feel obliged to go out for a brisk healthy walk.’
