Weird are, shoulder, elbow, wrist and finger pain

I've had this a few times now. Every few months.

It lasts around 24 hours.

Today it started in my wrist and is radiating around my shoulder, wrist, finger joints and elbow.

So for an hour or two my wrist will ache a lot, then the pain moves to my elbow, which will then ache a lot for a couple of hours ( wrist no longer hurts at that point ). Then it moves to my finger joints or my shoulder for a few hours. Each area is affected separately, so when one area hurts, the other area no longer hurts.

It's painful enough for me not to be able to sleep because of it.

The doctor basically does not care to investigate. It's just one of those things apparently.

Has anyone had this and got to the bottom of it ?

I can't think of any activity I've done that precedes it either.

Slapped cheek can cause this

armpain · 25/04/2024 14:24

Really ? I don't have any other symptoms

I got similar when I had sarcoidosis

OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart · 25/04/2024 14:26

Sounds like you may have a shoulder impingement. Mine radiates pain all down my arm including my fingers.

vincettenoir · 25/04/2024 14:27

Could it be carpal tunnel?

armpain · 25/04/2024 14:29

Thanks everyone. I will check all these things out !

There's also a possibility that it's a slipped disc. Does it feel tingly and does your hand feel weak?

Thankfully not. It's just really achey.

It also didn't start in the shoulder. It's mostly my wrist and elbow and finger joints that are sore today.

I had something similar, noticed it often when driving and stretching out my arm to change gear, I ignored it for months and months then one day couldn’t lift my arm above shoulder height, it was the muscle weakening in the shoulder joint and not holding the joint in place properly, a few weeks of strengthening exercises prescribed by physio sorted it.

Do you use computers a lot? Sounds like when my sister had carpal tunnel.

Well, I just hope your GP pulls his thumb out of his arse. I'd advise you to keep pestering him.

It might be worth seeing a physio privately. They are not that expensive. I've had arm symptoms due to nerves being pinched in my neck and back. GP could give general nerve pain meds but physio was much better for actually solving it.

I had similar symptoms when I was pregnant and had carpal tunnel syndrome. The pain I had was excruciating. The pain that would shoot up my arm was agonising. My fingers (mainly thumb, index, and middle) and wrists were painful, too. Maybe you could try a wrist splint to see if it helps? It alleviated my symptoms a little, but I had it quite severely due to swelling and fluid.

armpain · 25/04/2024 17:13

Thanks all. I have taken some pain killers because it's just too much.

I can now only describe it as wide spread pain on top of the pain in my wrist and hand.

My body feels bruised. Any slight pressing on pretty much any part of my body, feels bruised.

No idea what's going on !
