To think there is no point in reporting things on Facebook

In the last week I've reported

  • A clearly extremely antisemitic post - think burning start of David accompanied by nasty caricuctures.
  • An advert for fake bank notes - blatantly what they were offering was amazed they were so open about
  • An account which commented on one of my posts with links to "hot videos, blowjobs and hard smacking"

Non of them have been removed. Apparently all acceptable under community standards Confused I've asked for them all to be reviewed... but honestly what's the point social media is turning into a completely unmoderated cess pit

There’s no point! I tagged my dh in a comment to which a random stranger said it was bullying and I had a 30 day ban. My comment was “this is something you would do”.
Since then I’ve not bothered with Facebook as I’ve reported things similar to you and there hasn’t been an issue with it.

Abbimae · 24/04/2024 20:35

Agreed. I have reported numerous antismetic posts and been told they are fine vs Been removed for posting on a village group asking about yoga 🤣

frankentall · 24/04/2024 20:36

You are 100% correct Facebook don't give a flying fuck

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/04/2024 20:39

I went through a phase of reporting adverts for fake Clarks shoes on FB - lots of differently named websites that were all pretty much identical if you actually clicked on them.

I was stupid enough to buy from one, which is why I was seeing so many more of them. Some days I would report three or four on the trot.

FB never did anything, and only today I saw another one of these adverts.

I even reported the ads to Clarks , so they could chase FB too - I thought they might have more success than me.

Theunamedcat · 24/04/2024 20:43

Yet this is the warning I got the other day 😂

To think there is no point in reporting things on Facebook
LlynTegid · 24/04/2024 20:46

A large windfall tax unless Facebook and indeed other social media companies did not clean up their act would put a stop to that. You'd have thought given that Nick Clegg works for Meta the Tories would be interested, and then try to blame social media ills on the Lib Dems (as they tried to with the sub-postmasters prosecutions).

saturnspinkhoop · 24/04/2024 20:47

I’ve also reported blatant scams and racism - all have been allowed to stand. On the other hand, a post on Facebook marketplace of mine advertising some maternity jeans was removed. Makes no sense.

viccat · 24/04/2024 20:51

Totally agree. In recent weeks I've also reported racist comments and an ad for something obviously fake and everything met their community standards 🙄

Londonrach1 · 24/04/2024 20:59

Agree. .even the puppies for sale I reported was rejected. I never sent Facebook agree with me.

ilovesooty · 24/04/2024 21:04

I've reported racism and homophobia which has always been allowed to stand. I got a ban for inciting violence when I said that I'd stopped watching the covid briefings because I felt I wanted to smack Boris Johnson. I'm still on a warning now.

DryFebEmma · 24/04/2024 21:10

Yep I reported videos of extreme child abuse and animal abuse and they said it was fine. I left FB out of principle. Disgusting

Verv · 24/04/2024 21:13

I reported some horrific antisemitism, images of hitler with "hitler was right" and "nice day for a shower" etc - not against community standards.

I got a ban from posting in groups after responding "silly cow" to a woman who told me that GNC lesbians were failed trans men, because according to Facebook, silly cow is hate speech.

Nuts.

Iggityziggety · 24/04/2024 21:16

Yep. I reported a meme that referred to what a woman might look like when you choke her too hard during sex and apparently they found nothing wrong with it. At least we all know the bullshit Meta spout about keeping harmful content off their apps is just that.
On the flip side, I posted using a place name that I had visited that had 'Dyke' in and got a warning for hate speech or something. Appealed to see what would happen and they still decreed it inappropriate.

Rocknrolla21 · 24/04/2024 21:16

I don’t get why you go on platforms such as fb and then spend your time reporting things to people who don’t care. Stick to groups and people you know you’ll like. There’s millions of spam fb posts every day. Do you not have anything better to do than report them?

listsandbudgets · 24/04/2024 21:33

I was really hoping that I was an anomaly but seemingly not. It's disgusting what they let stand.

@Rocknrolla21 The nasty antisemite post was by a now former friend - it was vile I don't want any more to do with them. I'm certainly questioning my judgment!! The porn link was an unsolicited response to my own post. The fake bank notes came up as an advert. Reporting them is not difficult (though apparently pointless!) and surely a responsibility to protect others??

Moofart · 24/04/2024 21:36

I reported a post with extremely explicit pictures. A few weeks later I had a notification to say it didn't violate any of their rules. It was very, very graphic!

DagnabbitDeputyDawg · 24/04/2024 21:38

Why would Facebook care? If anyone's clicking on the links, liking, etc., they'll be making money from the companies whose cookies the vast majority of users seem happy to accept.

Facebook is not a public service. It is a business that exists to collect data about your internet habits and sell them to other businesses. There is no reason whatsoever for it to be concerned about your feelings, beliefs, etc.

If you don't like the smell of the shit, get out of the sewer.

frankentall · 24/04/2024 21:43

They don't consider themselves subject to any UK law or standards and the UK government lets them and others do what the fuck they want.

Willyoujustbequiet · 24/04/2024 21:45

Yanbu

I reported a father's for justice post that said women needed to raped to know their place and the f#cking sl#ts enjoyed it anyway...

Didn't go against community standards.

OMGitsnotgood · 24/04/2024 21:47

I have reported a few things that I consider racist and homophobic (I am white and straight just to be clear). All posts were allowed to stand so I agree with you OP.

SmokedPaprikaPuffs · 24/04/2024 21:52

My friend once asked on his fb for everyone to report a fake profile that was using past profile pictures and the name of his mother who had died, causing him real distress. I did and fb said it was fine. Not sure how the reporting system works but I'm sure it's a robot and not real people reviewing it when something gets reported.

IncessantNameChanger · 24/04/2024 21:53

I try to avoid FB. When I do go they are suggesting things that are lies - like the London Eye being moved to Scotland. They PUSH this shit onto my feed. Really graphic film clips PUSHED at me. I don't want to see any of it. It's a breeding ground of misinformation.

It's just utter BS. Who wants to consume just utter lies?

Gingerkittykat · 24/04/2024 22:14

I reported a video of a man committing suicide in Glasgow by jumping from a building naked. It was not against community standards but luckily I forwarded it to someone I know who worked high up in a mental health charity. He reported it to the correct person in The Samaritans and the video then got taken down.

The video was going round FB within a day of the man's death, it was horrible.

AsphaltBeach · 24/04/2024 22:43

No point whatsoever.
adverts for fake MOTs are a thing now, send reg, receive certificate. Apparently breaks no guidelines.

I don’t bother anymore.

H0ghedge · 24/04/2024 22:46

I reported some racist comments on an ad and they were taken down, but far too slowly for my liking (approx 24 hours). Very sad as it was about a local wildlife park and clearly the ad was designed to be welcoming but the comments may have deterred some visitors.
