Very boring AIBU, but would be really keen for some ideas and inspiration please.

I’ve got a work social thing in a few weeks, and as part of it, we’ve been asked to bring in an object that starts with the first letter of our name. We’ll then do a sort of ‘show and tell’, saying a bit about why the object is important to us, and our colleagues will decide whether they believe our story or not.

I get on really well with my colleagues, so I’m looking forward to this, but I’m finding it really tricky to work out what sort of object to bring. Just have no inspiration at all!

So do you mean you can tell a lie about the object and they have to guess if you're lying or not?

You could get some cheap green glass earrings from somewhere (our local chemist has a cheap rack of that sort of thing) and pretend they are emeralds from your gran or something...

Or an egg in a padded shoebox and claim you're trying to hatch it into a chick

I agree that the truth/lie aspect of the ‘show and tell’ stories probably hasn’t been properly thought through! I just want to bring something boring and basic, to show willing.

Address an Envelope to yourself (get someone else to write it) and make up some lie about how special it is and what's inside etc lol

Yes, it could be a letter you're not allowed to open until someone's death, and speculate about what could be in it, good potential for fun there.

Damn I had a brand new prosthetic ear I could have sent you but it was disposed of accidentally 😭 my DD used to wear one, when she was fed up she would stick it to her stomach or head to make people laugh...🤣

We had to do something similar at work a few years back - bring an object which represents our identity. What a load of bollocks. My identity is completely irrelevant to my work and none of my colleagues' fucking business. I took a book and said "I like reading" and nothing else 😅

DP suggested I take a dildo.

I'd take a large lead, maybe make a tag with a suitable name for it. Tell everyone you were going to bring your pet elephant, but security wouldn't let them in. Eyeball them all and in a sinister voice tell them 'an elephant NEVER forgets'

I think I’ll go with the ‘safe’ option of going for something related to my hobbies, as @BuyOrBake suggested. I haven’t really got the gift of the gab to pull off some of the other options mentioned here 😂😂😂
