Ordered a couch almost a month ago from a local shop.
Couch came, fit half through the front door but said they couldn't get it in living room (straight run, living room doorway wider than front door!) And said they couldn't fit the other half through the front door and took it away again. I was told I wasn't entitled to a refund and I should choose another couch from them of the same value. I went to the shop with all my measurements and the man in the store said it should have easily fit. He called another branch (they have 5 scattered around the city) and told me to go up there to speak to the lady and see what couches they have. She took my measurements and again said it should have fit. She suggested waiting for the other delivery man to attempt to get it in as he was the best at getting them through doors.

I was booked in for 2 days time, waited in all day, rang numerous times to be told it was next on the van. Found at 4pm he wasn't even in. Rang back the next day and was told he had broken a rib but should be in in a few days (with a broken rib....). After ringing at the end of the week he was still off (obviously) so I decided to just go and choose another slightly smaller one. The original delivery man was in the store when I chose the new one and said he should be able to get that in.

He came, they got it in (to which he then hugged and kissed me with pride - totally out of order but as stunned as I was I was just over the moon it fit so let it go) however they forgot the feet and said they would come the next day.

Took a day off work, nobody came.

Next day I went to the shop myself and collected the feet and told them I'd do it myself as I was fed up being messed around. Turns out they couldn't find the screws but don't worry, someone will drop them off that night. Nobody did obviously. I called the next day, oh sorry didn't they come? Dont worry, someone will be out tomorrow after 4pm to fit them. No-one came. Turns out he came at 10am when I was in work and they didn't think to send him back at 4pm or call me to rearrange or even let me know until I went back into the shop 3 days later on the weekend to ask. I took one of the feet with me to see if they had the screws to do them myself. Turns out they'd gave me the wrong feet (and only 7 instead of 8) she kept that one and told me they'd collect the others from my house when he fitted the new ones today.

Rescheduled for today, he turns up...I pull all the sofa cushions off and he stares at me waiting for the feet he was supposed to bring. Apparently he was told I had them. Told me to call up and reschedule. Shops closed.

I'm ready to scream. I've been polite, I've been understanding, I've been patient. These people have had my money for a couch for almost a month and I still don't have a complete sofa. I love the sofa and don't want to return it but I want the FULL sofa!!

It is an independent business so aside from leaving a bad review and going down there screaming and shouting what can I do. They won't even refund the £50 left over difference from the first to second sofa as apparently its my fault it didn't fit even though they said it should have because I should have measured (I did). I paid with debit card if it makes a difference.

Does anyone know what my rights are here please?

Would trading standards be able to help??
Ridiculous they said they could get first sofa through door but then couldn't. I'd say that's on them not you. I'd be wanting my £50 back pronto.
The way they have handled the whole thing is quite shambolic and I'd be reflecting that in a review of the service you've had.

GlitteryFarts · 22/04/2024 18:41

I'm hesitant to leave a review until I have the feet.
Its a shame because they have beautiful stuff in there and I actually need new beds but need to look further afield now as I will never be using them again.

I'd email them giving them a deadline to give you your refund and sort out your sofa, or you'll go to trading standards. That usually lights a fire under their butts!
If they miss the deadline, leave a public review as that can prompt them to action and email them again to notify them that you will be going to trading standards. Then do it. Businesses like this unfortunately forget that customers have rights, you have paid for a service and product which they have not provided.

I really don’t know but I had heart palpitations just reading your OP.

I cannot find an email address for the company anywhere. They have an Instagram account for each shop, would this be enough evidence in writing if needed does anyone know?

After calling again this morning I was told they'd be with me at 4 tonight WITH the feet.
Low and behold I'm still sat here.
I'm going to go and speak to citizens advice as I don't know whether trading standards or the ombudsman is the best option here. Is small claims a possibility for a partial refund or would I be forced to return it does anybody know?

Its so pathetic its laughable now
I've just caught myself grinding my teeth waiting and my heart is pounding with frustration.

ARGHHHH

Leave a Trustpilot review and make it scathing. I do and usually get results. I do threaten the companies with it first.

You could also leave a review on google.

Yes, if that’s their only contact. Copy all you’ve written here for your records because there’s a good timeline.

Have you lost your temper with them yet?! I would have.

Not yet, I think I've been very restrained considering. There's a lot more thats happened, this was just the whole thing in a nutshell!
Maybe that's the problem, I might have shown myself to be a push over by trying to be understanding and patient.

I'm done now though, I'm actually looking at new couches as we speak incase I end up going through channels that mean I need to return for a full refund. Going to call citizens advice tomorrow, apparently they can forward issues onto trading standards. I'm also reading about the furniture ombudsman and small claims costs.

I always start off being fair and reasonable but it doesn’t take long now for me to lose it. I used to be such a sweet person!

You absolutely deserve a full refund. Good luck.
