Have a few glasses of wine at home then eat before bed = Hangover

Go on hen do yesterday.

I consumed mojitos,beer,margaritas,shots and vodka.Very little food.

No hangover at all!

God knows how I've got off this lightly.

Wait and see how you feel tomorrow! Sometimes if I’ve drunk a lot of alcohol I feel fine the next day but then it hits me a day or two later.

dimllaishebiaith · 21/04/2024 22:09

Wine always gives me a hangover, spirits don't, maybe its the wine that's the issue?

Cnidarian · 21/04/2024 22:09

Still drunk?!

Jeezitneverends · 21/04/2024 22:10

I can get hungover up to the eyeballs on one glass of rose or white wine, yet am generally perfectly fine with a LOT of vodka….I don’t generally drink wine for this reason!

No definitely not.right as rain

As already suggested you are probably still drunk. Take the opportunity to drink lots of water and eat a really carb heavy meal before the hangover proper hits.

I'm 44.I should be rough as a badgers arse. This is a 18 yr olds outcome.

Might be tannin in wine that causes your wine hangover?

Wine is the problem. Even a glass or 2 makes me feel awful the next day!

EmmaEmerald · 21/04/2024 22:21

It's because wine

it actually gives me a rash, I no longer drink it, obvs!

stick to the hard stuff and you'll be fine!

Ginkypig · 21/04/2024 22:21

Wine vs spirits in my completely non expert experience.

i hardly ever drink spirits now but when I did regularly in my youth I never got a hangover or actually even felt that drunk and it’s the same now even though I hardly ever do nowadays but I drink red wine once a week and if I have more than half a bottle I feel drunk and if I have more than say 3/4 of a bottle even if out for a meal which means more food than at home il get a hangover the next day!

to avoid it I have 2 large glasses (1/2 bottle) 1 with and 1 after dinner on sat night and no more lol

Piemam · 21/04/2024 22:39

Clear spirits are best for avoiding hangovers, and off-topic, love that you say it's an 18yrs old's outcome!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/04/2024 22:10

No definitely not.right as rain

you don't have to feel drunk to have a fairly reasonable blood alcohol level

my advise is to keep drinking...

NailsHairNipsHeels · 22/04/2024 01:46

Wine makes me so hungover
3 glasses of wine I'm up throwing up during the night and rough the next day
Gin on the other hand I can drink it like juice and be up fresh as a daisy and I wouldn't know I'd even had a drink.
Just stick to the hard stuff in future to ensure no hangover

LaurieFairyCake · 22/04/2024 06:24

When I started Peri menopause I switched to gin

Haven't been able to drink wine for a decade

I stick with clear spirits for no hangover.
Wine is terrible but I can get away with fizzy stuff usually

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 22/04/2024 08:35

‘A few glasses’ of wine is a bottle! Some of those new world reds are 14 or 14.5’.

Mojitos at hen do type places are often v weak. Did you drink it all over quite a long period?

It's exercise. If I exercise while drinking (dancing etc) I'm less hungover.

You got a lot more steps in on the hen do than sitting drinking at home.

If I go to a neighbour friend's house for drinks, I sprint home and it helps.

I didn't make this up, it's a known thing in traditional Chinese medicine as first aid against a hangover.

Mumoftwo1312 · 22/04/2024 11:11

Ps not that I'm condoning regular binges and TCM definitely doesn't! Just if you are in a position where you've overdone it, this is the first aid that I find works.

I barely ever get a chance to go out for drinks any more atm anyway lol (tiny violin). But when I next get a chance for an evening out it'll be the dancing kind!

KreedKafer · 22/04/2024 11:20

Wine always makes me feel a lot worse the next day than spirits.

Also, if you were drinking from 4pm - midnight, the alcohol from the earlier drinks would already have left your system even before you went to bed.

toomuchfaff · 22/04/2024 13:43

mojitos, beer, margaritas, shots and vodka.Very little food.

Sugar with the cocktails, probably lower alcohol levels too. Also if you stopped drinking a long time before sleep - that helps with hangovers. Think about getting home, chilling out etc. sometimes your "last drink" is hours before you actually go to sleep.

More likely you need to drop the wine and swap to another drink - i cant drink wine - i have migraine before i get to the bottom of the glass. Maybe switch to beer?
