its day 6 for me and it’s no better. I’ve had a sore throat for what feels like forever, my ears are ringing and full of pressure, my nose is constantly blocked.
My right ear and right hand side of my throat is hurting every time I swallow or cough.

I also feel exhausted.

I had the 100 day cough at Xmas. The coughing was relentless, so much so that I couldn’t sleep, so was exhausted. Night Nurse was my saviour!

AlisonWonderbra · 21/04/2024 07:27

That sounds pretty similar to what I have. The last time I had this throat/ear combo hell was when I had my tonsils removed as a teenager. I had to phone in sick this morning.

strugglingwithlife · 21/04/2024 12:28

I've had a sore throat for about a month now and it seems to be getting worse, my whole mouth hurts and it's painful to eat and drink

Mummy2two89 · 21/04/2024 21:32

3 of us in my household getting over this! It's bloody awful. Sore throat like iv never had before, headache, congestion and sickness. Iv heard of a few other people with it too it's really knocking the stuffing out of people. Hope you feel better soon

Cicciabella · 21/04/2024 21:36

Yes- day 7 now. Its covid - hit in Italy dsy before we flew back. Pressure in ears hideous.
Night nurse and sudafed.

Been going to work but it's making me angry. So I'll, nobody cares ,,, on point of collapse.

Single mum,no help.

It's shit.

Gsyllama · 21/04/2024 21:40

Yes, it's horrible! I'd describe it like "a cold in terms of symptoms , but also somehow hits like a tonne of bricks, with exhaustion and breathlessness doing basic things"

AFmammaG · 21/04/2024 21:42

DH has had it but it’s obviously much more serious then how you’ve described it Grin

Sapphire387 · 21/04/2024 21:45

Yes. I haven't been fully well in a month. I think I had two viruses back to back - firstly a disgusting chesty cough, worse than I have ever had to the point that I couldn't catch my breath and had a nebuliser in A&E. Then just as I was recovering, the sore throat from hell and another illness with a temperature.

I am exhausted. It's really rotten. It's hit a lot of my family hard too.

SendNoods · 21/04/2024 21:48

@strugglingwithlife me too! My whole mouth feels like it's burning, lumps on my tounge and my throat kills! Everything tastes disgusting. Also have sores up my nose which have been there over a week now and are so painful 😞.

Chickenwing2 · 21/04/2024 21:54

I have this. A colleague recommended boiling grated garlic, grated ginger and ground cloves in boiling water, waiting for it to cool down and drinking like a shot.

Probably a placebo but I do feel better (was willing to try anything, I'm exhausted just walking up the stairs in my house.

OneTC · 21/04/2024 21:54

Something similar got me on the first day of my holiday, was mostly over it on day 5 but I've still got a cough now and got it 18 days ago. The first night was murder as I had no paracetamol, we were very rural and the little village chemist closed before we could get to it

I suspect covid which is gutting if it was because I'd swerved it up until now.

LBOCS2 · 21/04/2024 21:59

Yep, came down with it a fortnight ago, still coughing and weirdly feel worse again today than I did last week?

YeahComeOnThen · 21/04/2024 22:00

Yeah, I had it a few weeks ago. It was horrible. Some variant of Covid I think. Only good news is that I didn't end up in hospital (underlying issues, was shielding when it was a thing).

the only thing that helped was some out of date cough syrup from when it had decent shit in it!!

Hope you get over it soonxt

TimeForTeaAndG · 21/04/2024 22:02

100 day cough is whooping cough. DD got it end of January (right as I got Covid) and is still coughing now and again. At least her overnight coughing has now cleared up. She was absolutely wrecked from not sleeping well (was asleep but coughing in her sleep so disturbing herself).

Hapagirl48 · 21/04/2024 22:05

My poor DD has this and she starts Nat 5 exams day after tomorrow (Scotland). She’s so stressed. Luckily she’s really worked hard anyway but I feel so bad for her. We’re just taking it easy on her and lots of TLC and fingers crossed.

MoonlightMemories · 21/04/2024 22:06

Yep, I'm on nearly week 4 of it - visited the GP on about day 5 after no improvement (painkillers were not touching the incredibly sore throat/ear pain in the slightest) and got given antibiotics as the Dr could see lots of pus on my tonsils - that has mostly cleared up, one ear is still a little sore but it's so much better then it was. Had fevers on and off for like a week and had times where I've felt a bit sort of muddled and not really known what's going on. Dr also said my chest sounded clear but the stuff I was bringing up (presumably from my sinuses) once the antibiotics started to take effect was just awful!

Have been barely sleeping at night as that's when the cough has been it's worst. Still coughing - it's very slowly getting better but it doesn't seem like it's going away any time soon. I've repeatedly coughed so hard that I've nearly thrown up on several occasions during really bad coughing fits and I've all but lost my voice on a few occasions now.

Toastandbutterand · 21/04/2024 22:09

Yes! A horrible pressure headache too!

Feels like someones whacking me on the top of my head with a bag of bricks.

My mum had it first, took her 4 weeks to get rid of it!

Get well soon OP x

AppelationStation · 21/04/2024 22:15

Same here. DS has head a persisten cough for over a month. I got it over Easter and ended up with bad tonsillitis and an ear infection in both ears. Went back to GP for 2nd set of antibiotics last week as ear and throat pain getting worse again. Still coughing up rankness. I had two weeks off work I was so ill. Mostly better now but not right.

What's annoying me most is that it's left me really deaf. I can't hear what people are saying at all and background noise seems so loud. it's infuriating!

Incidentally I did a covid test (have some lurking around, still in date) and it was negative. So unless it's a strain the tests don't pick up I don't think it's covid, but a mutated virus that's revelling in the weird stuff the last 3 years has done to our immune systems.

AlwaysGinPlease · 21/04/2024 22:21

It's been a week and a half since whatever this is started. I have completely lost my voice, since last Tuesday., I often cough so much I am actually sick. Blocked itchy ears, throat like broken glass, lungs clogged up with yellow/green gunk. Sore ribs, muscles and a permanent headache from coughing. I didn't even feel this bad with Covid x 2. I just want to stop bloody coughing! Feeling very sorry for myself!

hattie43 · 21/04/2024 22:22

I've got / had an intermittent cough for a few months now , one minute I think it's gone then it comes back . It's like it dormant in me and keeps resurfacing

goingtotown · 21/04/2024 22:36

Week 5. I'm feeling better but not 100%, cough has gone.

GenerousGardener · 21/04/2024 22:42

Coughing for about five weeks now. Voice comes and goes. I’ve had enough of it. Just when I think it’s gone the coughing starts all over again.

Groovy48592747 · 22/04/2024 00:19

Sounds like what I had. Did a Covid test and it was positive!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 23/04/2024 16:28

I started with a mild sore throat last Tuesday whilst on holiday. The following day I was fine, just had a snotty nose but I do suffer from hay fever. Landed back on Thursday night still felt fine. Sunday I felt lousy. Scratchy throat, heavy tight chest, coughing feeling sick and sinus pressure. Still feel like shite today and even walking to the bathroom which is literally just outside my bedroom door, is absolutely flooring me. I can't smell sod all and I can barely taste a thing. Whatever is on my chest isn't budging and my nose is bunged up. Not fully blocked I can semi breathe out of one side. Don't think there's any infection in my sinuses cos what stuff I can blow out is clear. Yet my head and face feels so heavy and painful. I don't have much of an appetite at the moment either.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 25/04/2024 17:19

Turns out mines covid. Completely lost all taste and smell yesterday. It wasn't great before yesterday but I put that down to my sinuses being blocked. However because I feel ok now to what I did a few days ago I can still go into work. It does seem to have affected my chest more the second time round though.
