Faulty step counter

This isn't an AIBU but this forum gets a lot of traffic and I have a question.
I just got a new step counter watch . It was €20 from Amazon.
According to it I did 18000 steps today.
I did a 5 K walk plus, the usual daily walking around.
I used to have a proper smart watch and it never registered anything like that many steps. 5k walk would have been about 6000 steps.
So my question is, do you think my new watch is over counting or was my old watch under counting.
And how many steps would your 5k register?
Thanks

My fitbit registers 5k as about 6,000 steps

10,000 steps is about 1 hour 40 mins of walking at a steady pace

So I think you're new watch is massively over estimating

I think your new watch is wrong I’m afraid. I did two dog walks yesterday of an hour each. Did general work around the farm and rode my horse for an hour and I did 18500 steps according to my garmin. If I go for a 4 mile run that’s around 7500 steps. So I imagine 5k is 6000 ish.
