I have never worn a ring, necklace or a bracelet

I’m 40. Married. But don’t have a ring. Neither does DH.

I’ve had a few wtf comments over the years, not enough to be fussed by it. I think some people have found it strange. But I’ve never worn rings, not even for fashion. I’ve never had my nails painted either… I have an Outdoor active job, have done since 18 so my hands look haggard 🙈

I’ve never worn necklaces or bracelets either. I just find them annoying.

I do have many ear piercings though including conch and rook. But again, never worn dangly earrings as find them annoying.

Do you think IABU for not wearing a wedding ring? Would you not be seen dead without yours? How would/does your dh feel?… My dh doesn’t have a wedding ring.

You do you!!!!!

if you want to wear one - go for it. If you don’t - don’t.

life is too short to care about what others think about your (lack of) jewellery choices!!!

IamSmarticus · 20/04/2024 21:08

I don't think YABU but do think it's a bit unusual.

You don't need a jewel to denote your marital perspective.

Just wear jewels because you fancy them.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 20/04/2024 21:39

I don't think there's anything weird about it. Lots of married people don't wear a ring. Working with machinery can be dangerous if a ring gets caught. I haven't worn my own wedding ring for over a decade because it doesn't fit me, though I am wearing my grandma's in it's place. I have a friend who has never been able to wear any form of jewellery, it's sort of like a phobia for her. If people think it's weird that's their problem, just carry on as you are and don't waste your time worrying what people think of you.

I used to wear bangles but when I was teaching practical animal husbandry I led by example & jewellery wasn't permitted due to H&S, so got out of the habit of wearing them.

Might wear jewellery if I get dressed up for a gig but generally I find it annoying so don't bother.

Me either OP. I can’t wear necklaces, scarves, snoods, high collars or turtlenecks due to being choked repeatedly in the past. I can’t cope with any sport that needs a helmet for the same reason. I don’t wear any rings because I’d panic if I couldn’t get them off and my fingers swell when I exercise, plus they are unhygienic. Earrings I can do like you. I’ve been excluded from social events because I cant wear necklaces etc before so I assume it’s unusual.

BoobyDazzler · 20/04/2024 21:44

I don’t wear my wedding ring because it interferes with my hobby but DH doesn’t wear his either so 🤷🏽‍♀️

I do wear other jewellery though.

I think the first PP nailed it - you do you.

What sort of social events have you been excluded from for not wearing necklaces? I'm nosy because that seems crazily unreasonable of the excluder.

I never wear rings or bracelets - they feel annoying - and certainly wouldn't think worse of someone who didn't wear a wedding ring.

Runningbird43 · 20/04/2024 21:54

I don’t wear any jewellery either.

don’t see the point.

KThnxBye · 20/04/2024 21:57

Being a bridesmaid. Luau hen party. Go karting with friends. Adventure weekend white water rafting (another hen party).

theduchessofspork · 20/04/2024 22:02

Lots of women don’t wear a ring, I think most people had one at some point but it got lost / doesn’t fit / started to irritate their skin / they got out of the habit of it. I don’t think it’s unusual at all

NotaNorovirusFan · 20/04/2024 22:06

I don’t wear any jewellery and don’t have my ears pierced anymore (did get them done as a teen but they have closed up now).
