Do you think my Kindle paperwhite battery should be more long lasting?

so the Kindle itself is just over two years old but it seems like although I’m only using it for maybe half an hour a day if that, the battery just always needs recharging. Is it time to get a new one? How long do people think Kindle’s batteries are good for?

It’s a 7.8

Are you recharging it using mains electricity? I find my kindle has far worse battery life if I use a power bank to charge it.

Sewannoying · 18/04/2024 21:30

Mine’s over 10 years only and lasts a week with daily use. Do you put it on airplane mode?

Wakeywake · 18/04/2024 21:34

Mine lasts for about a week with daily use. I've not actually noticed much battery life degradation, and I've had it for years.

Moier · 18/04/2024 21:36

Mine will last a good two weeks and l read for two hours every night.. on holiday l read more and it lasts a good week.
Mines a paper white 11th Edition.

BeaLola · 18/04/2024 21:36

I always charge mine by mains power and battery lasts ages , as did my previous two

beAsensible1 · 18/04/2024 21:37

That’s weird mine hardly ever dies, usually lasts days!

Re you using a speedy charger etc?

Gettingbysomehow · 18/04/2024 21:38

Mine is the same. Lasts no more than 1 or 2 days.

Pashazade · 18/04/2024 21:43

You need to keep it in airplane mode! Mine runs down quickly when I forget to do this.

DelilahBucket · 18/04/2024 21:45

Mine is the same, and yet I had the first paper white model and it went on and on for years with no battery deterioration. Like most modern rechargeable devices, they just don't last long.

PhuckyNell · 18/04/2024 21:45

Airplane mode is an excellent tip

Riverlee · 18/04/2024 21:45

My kindle is several years old, and I only charge it every ten days.

SleepingisanArt · 18/04/2024 21:50

There has been a software update which had a bug in it and meant that batteries weren't charging fully. It has been 'fixed' but its worth completely powering off your kindle, leaving it for a minute or so and then powering it back up. Should then charge fully and hold its charge for a decent amount of time.

BIWI · 18/04/2024 21:51

Are you leaving it connected to wifi?

BeaLola · 18/04/2024 23:10

When I said upthread mine last ages I mean weeks especially if I've switched to aeroplane mode - I charged it last night and I think the time before that was before my DS broke up for Easter

Do88byisfree · 18/04/2024 23:14

My previous kindle battery did this after a trip through the washing machine. Is it possible it's got wet?
However, otherwise the battery life is much longer. Mine lasts a couple of weeks and I read every day (not always for very long as I tend to fall asleep reading!)
I've found calling amazon has been great in the past. They've been very helpful and gave me a good discount on a replacement.

TellerTuesday · 19/04/2024 07:46

I had this happen a couple of years ago. I messaged Amazon support and they gave me some instructions to do something to it, can't remember what now but it worked and it's been fine for several years since, only charge once a month or so. Get in touch with them and they should be able to help

TheExclusiveSandwich · 19/04/2024 11:58

Main.
mine not internet enabled.

Echobelly · 19/04/2024 12:00

That sounds faulty - mine is a few years old and lasts about 10-14 days on full charge if I keep it on airplane mode when not downloading books (goes down faster if wifi is always on). I read about 1hr a day on the whole.

Flapearedknave · 19/04/2024 12:35

Mine lasts ages. Think you should contact Amazon.

Thanks to all for airplane mode suggestion!

TheExclusiveSandwich · 02/05/2024 21:41

Well

thank you everybody for your advice, I did a live online chat with Amazon and restored my factory settings then I do all the logging in et cetera, which is a pain in the neck.

But now it’s much better

Mine is about 6 yrs old , I read for 1-2 hr per night and charge it once a week when it’s still at about 50% . My daughters is really old and even hers holds charge longer than yours @TheExclusiveSandwich

TheExclusiveSandwich · 03/05/2024 01:37

Thanks. As you can see it’s solved now.
