The Line of Flies

AIBU for traffic. Please solve this mystery for me.
Work in an office. Upstairs is another side of the business who sometimes come down to use my office. We don't often cross paths as work different hours. Not particularly friendly relationships between the two sides. There are only three of us in my office. Today I was alone.
Anyway, door into my office was totally normal yesterday. Today, sitting with a client, noticed that the door had a strange dark line on it from top to almost bottom. He got up to see what it was and said, ugh it's flies!
Got the hoover to deal with them thinking quite odd that they'd all died in a straight line formation, about 15 of them.
Went to hoover and realised not dry fly corpses but SQUASHED fly corpses with streaks of goo between each. They were stuck to the door with their own goo. (Hoovered what I could and got rest off with wipes.).
So, the mystery is - why? How did they get there? Why were they in a line? Why squashed? The door opened at its fullest doesn't touch the wall it's in. Nothing to squash them against!
There is a cleaner in the building who is odd but doesn't do our offices. We had our own but she's away. The only thing I can think of is someone from upstairs doing it because I mentioned to the boss that someone had left the lights and heater on in my office all night and two posters off the wall and on the floor. But I realise that is nuts. But the line of squashed flies is nuts!

Have no clue but following for the updates. If it's not woo my money's on the cleaner

Have you ever seen any particularly large spiders in the office?

AmiShitsaline · 18/04/2024 21:11

It’s obviously a dead body in the roof above the door which is decaying and has dripped through onto the door, flies have laid eggs on the body which hatched into larvae and then more flies, some of these were then were caught in the drip as it trickled down the door and dried.

never going in to work again

Never seen a spider in there. Wonder what IS upstairs. Not totally sure whixh business it is....

They aren't tiny flies by the way but quite sizeable ones!

I cannot get past idea of someone doing it. Or what else?

Where are all the MN etymologists?! Grin

Oh god, your office is possessed.

AgnesNaismith · 19/04/2024 07:43

According to Reddit it’s demons. Sorry.

Sorry OP, you need to quit the job, move to a different city and ideally industry, and change your identity. Burn the building before you go.

(More seriously: my bet is on the upstairs people.)

BobbyBiscuits · 19/04/2024 07:55

Even if the upstairs people or the weird cleaner were involved, I can't understand how it occurred? Did someone put fly bait in a line and then squash them? Why would you? And why are there so many flies, but not flying around?
You need to speak to office management and possibly pest control. Are there any weird smells? Gawd, it's terrifying, lol.

MrsWhattery · 19/04/2024 08:34

My money’s on something being on the door that they were attracted to, like some kind of spillage/squashed fruit or something that dripped down? Obviously that would still be odd.

LunaNorth · 19/04/2024 09:03

Maybe a sticky fly paper got stuck to the door and they transferred over?

(puke)

Carouselfish · 19/04/2024 10:10

@MrsWhattery Yes that sounds like the most plausible. And then they got stuck to it and died and the goo could be the sugary mess left from a drink. And a drip of drink would run straight down. Still upstairs' fault though as we don't chuck our drinks about! Grin
