To give this feedback on eBay

In March I bid for a vintage magazine on eBay costing 99p plus postage. I think it was more like £3.99 in total.

My cousin had been ill and died during that time so checking ebay was not my priority. 2 days after the listing ended and whilst we were in the midst of funeral arrangements I did see a reminder in my emails so I replied to the seller. The listing ended on 14/03, they messaged 15/03 and I saw the message on the morning of 16/03:

Seller: hi still waiting on payment if you dont what it let me know or will cancel it
Me: Hi so sorry I've had a bereavement and it slipped my mind yes I do want it! I'll pay when I get home. Thanks for your patience😽
Seller: hi sorry to hear that but it being cancel now

I contacted the seller again to explain, and that I thought they would have been able to wait but got no reply. Then today I was giving some feedback and the transaction was in the feedback list so I gave negative feedback:

A close family member died the day the listing ended. I had a reminder and paid the day after with a full explanation but the seller sent me a very terse reply saying (quote) "hi sorry to hear that but it being cancel now" Really poor example of customer service, for an item listed at 99p.

The seller replied:
nice feed back , really cool of you knowing l waiting day for payment then as soon as it was cancel you send reply mmmmm

I have reported the seller to eBay.

All this for 99p for goodness sake! The item still hasn't been sold!!!

I think I’d save my energy tbh.

I'm sorry for your loss op.

The problem is there are so many liars and scammers on eBay that they probably thought you were one of them. I've heard many stories of bereavement and hospital stays etc which all come on the final day payment is due. I'm not saying they are all false but I reckon some are.

TBH you managed to bid on something when your cousin was ill. I'm not a seller on eBay but I don't think they did anything wrong. This is why eBay has brought in automatic payments on offers (They hold the money for a few hours after your offer and charge automatically if accepted)
I'm guessing at some point they'll do the same for bids.
I'm sorry for your loss but can't see how you think the seller has done anything wrong?
