I just ordered two IKEA covers for an Ethorp sofa - one beige and the other green. I liked the beige, but didn't like the green so I returned it without unfolding it or fully taking it out of its box.
A week later IKEA told me that the returned cover was covered in oil and had a nasty smell. I told them I had not even fully unpacked the item and asked them to send photographic evidence of the damage. No reply so I asked them to return the item which I had paid £99 for. They now tell me that it has been sent to recycling because of the state it was in and cannot be returned to me. AIBU to think that this is pretty outrageous and maybe that I am being conned? As far as I am concerned I have been given no proof that the item was in anyway damaged and have paid £99 and ended up with absolutely nothing. Any recommendations for further action would be gratefully received.
