We live in a commuter town. Bought our house six years ago. Neighbour is in his early 70s and always seemed a bit gruff but okay.
When we moved in he said 'it's a quiet neighbourhood- but if anything we are the noisy ones'.
They were quite noisy - rows, music, their adult children would stay when they went away and made noise then. But we didn't really think much of it.
Then we got a dog. She does bark but yeah not late at night and it's all fairly normal. Plus DH and I work from home and tend to start early so we go to bed 10pm latest and up by 5.30am.
Well we started getting banging on the wall and pretty much neighbour's behaviour escalated to shouting threats at us from his front door. We had to report him to the police the third time he did it. At this point he makes a noise complaint to the council. They throw out his complaint and the police go round and chat to him and denies he's been threatening us. This was 18 months ago. Things went quiet and we get the occasional banging - like last week when our pup barked for all of 10 seconds at 7.30pm. We nearly gave our dog up because o got so stressed. I left a job to work from home (DH has always wfh) because of all this. Gave up being a guide leader and helping at a shelter because I don't like leaving house when he is home. Anyway at the weekend we shut a door at 9pm and it was a bit loud. Neighbour screams out the window - obscene things and tells us to fix the door. Our DC (10 and 15) hear him use the c word at me. Well I'd had enough; spoke to other neighbour and she and I came to the conclusion maybe a letter might help. So I post a nice letter through their door. Then this morning the son - who lives with his parents (neighbours) - he's about 40 follows my husband down the road in his car. My DH stops at the shop to get bread. This guy started threatening my DH saying he will 'get him' and that my letter was 'a piece of work'. We had to call the police. I'm trying to get cctv footage as it was outside a shop - at wits end.
