Please let me apologise first off; I know this is very much a first world problem so I really don't want to come across as insensitive to what others are going through at the present time.
We have a holiday booked to a European destination. It's somewhere that we absolutely love so have been there many years running (Covid years aside). The timing coincides with an event that DH takes part in so is fixed from timing point of view. This year's holiday was booked shortly after returning from last year's trip.
Approximately 4 weeks before we were due to travel, DH received an email from the hotel to say that our 10 day booking will have to be cut to 5 days as they now have a private booking covering the remaining 5 days. No compensation offered despite the fact that we have paid upfront (to take advantage of a good early booking deal), just very "generously" offered us free transportation to one of 3 suggested hotels with whom they promised to negotiate favourable rates for us (none of them were suitable alternatives).
This completely contravenes their T&C's which state booking can only be cancelled by hotel due to Force Majeure. Closing due to another booking is not that!
This is the third time it has happened to us in recent years and it's beginning to really piss me off! Every time we book a holiday now, I'm thinking is it going ahead or are we going to be shafted once again!
AIBU to think hotels should honour previous bookings?
