I can almost hear my aunt turning in her grave...
What odd habits/foibles. do you stick to that you don't need to as a Grown Up?

I'd completely forgotten that rule, but it was definitely a rule.

In some ways, I think life was better then. Small treats were bigger iyswim. I think you need to honour your Aunt and follow the rule.

Beansandneedles · 16/04/2024 13:14

Dooooo it, doooo it!!!

I remember making a plumble once. I decided to put sprinkles on it. 'Are we allowed to do that?!' says my housemate. 'Allowed?! Who's going to stop us??'.

The next morning she had sprinkles on her porridge.

Honestly I think adulting needs more of this, otherwise kid you is definitely silently judging that you're not making the most of the experience 😂

Knittedfairies2 · 16/04/2024 13:17

I'd forgotten that too, but it was certainly the way a tin of biscuits had to be eaten. If you timed it right, someone else 'had' to eat the pink wafers before the chocolate biscuits underneath became fair game.

AdoraBell · 16/04/2024 13:18

Having the first cup of coffee when I make a pot. I use a cafetière.

Magicisuponus · 16/04/2024 13:21

Embrace the freedom - you can eat it anyway you want to. I enjoy adulthood so much more than childhood 😂

MrsSlocombesCat · 16/04/2024 13:56

I’m not sure I understand the plot here. If I had a box of chocolates that were a gift for me, I would eat them all.

takemeawayagain · 16/04/2024 14:10

When you said go downstairs I literally thought you meant go downstairs - I was thinking, is someone else going to eat the rest of the top ones while you're downstairs or something?

Now I see you mean eating the bottom layer before you've finished the top layer and I think you should do exactly as you please. Keep in mind you will be left with all the crappy ones at the end though!

Off topic, but what's a plumble?

But yes, do it!

Bananadramallamas · 16/04/2024 14:22

Yeah. Did you mean a crumble?

Bananadramallamas · 16/04/2024 14:24

Anyway, that is the best way (imo) to eat a box of chocolates. Eat them in best to least favourites. I do anyway.
And now I want chocolates.

RobertaFirmino · 16/04/2024 14:27

Hang on, you were given these chocolates in MARCH and you've not even finished the top layer?

tobee · 16/04/2024 14:30

Is it a cutesy name for a plum crumble?

I do the opposite, eat my least favourite first and then savour the best ones....hoping no-one else comes in so I don't have to share them!

That isn't what the OP means. She's talking about eating chocolates from the bottom layer of the box before she's finished the ones on the top layer.

Bananadramallamas · 16/04/2024 14:37

But isn't there a chance one of the kids will find your chocolate hidey place and snaffle the best ones before you can eat them? Happens. Seem to recall a thread where someone's DH had done it, and a divorce was mentioned.

I thought that. I love a plumb crumble. One third fruit with two thirds crunchy, buttery crumble.

Also gooseberry crumble.
Also rhubarb crumble
Also cherry crumble

Apple crumble - meh. 🌹

Dareisayiseethesunshine · 16/04/2024 14:54

I have stashed the opened box. Dd 18 has seen the wrapping and enquired where they were... Stashed well.. They remain undetected..
I haven't been Downstairs yet...
But tbh there aren't many I like. The dc know they get any strawberry ones - allergic though can't imagine the % of an actually sb is reaction level!!
Aunt ate Black Magic only. I still remember the elongated orange cream one...

I always eat the shit ones first to get them outta the way😁

pinkwaterbottle9 · 16/04/2024 15:52

Nope. I have to eat the top layer first.

Ha it's what lazy people (aka me) call a plum crumble

Janetime · 16/04/2024 16:08

I also thought you literally meant downstairs.

personally I eat from either layer as I please.

fromaytobe · 16/04/2024 16:11

Just switch the two layers in the box over. Once you've eaten all the favourites from the new top layer, you can play a square-peg-round-hole game with the rest and try to fit them all into one layer.

I have never done this of course I have.

I thought you meant actually physically downstairs and was going to say no keep them in your bedroom otherwise everyone else will eat them 😂😂

Dareisayiseethesunshine · 16/04/2024 16:18

More fun to hide them in plain sight!!

OP posts:
Laiste · 16/04/2024 16:19

Not just licking the spoon - but actually eating some (quite a lot) of the cake mix ! 😮

Wouldn't dare until well into my 30s 😂
