I'm curious to know if this is just me and if it's not is it an age related thing (peri menopause) and how to best manage these feelings

People being dicks is normal but these days I just have zero tolerance for any bullshit at all

Is this normal and what is it ?

The hormones of peri menopasue can bring to the fore maladaptive coping mechanisms established when you were a child. Schema therapy is interesting and labels these 'parts' of ourselves - look up 'schema therapy angry child/enraged child'. Usually underlying the anger is actually sadness, and when you lean in to these feelings and really feel them you can process them and feel less angry in future.

Sounds like you need to work on widening your window of tolerance

I read one article that suggested that the female hormones prior to menopause were all about mediation, caring, creating community etc as that is what is needed to raise young in a group setting. Once those hormones start to dip, all that goes out of the window and we no longer care so much about keeping the peace and creating community. Which means all the crap we tolerated before, suddenly becomes intolerable.
I can't find the exact article again, but I think it was here https://www.balance-menopause.com/
