Antibiotics for kids

We all know how vile liquid antibiotics prescribed for kids are and the parenting battles that getting them into kids takes. Having struggled with oral medications for years with a child who has multiple antibiotics each year I discovered that actually they can prescribe them in tablet form for children but just don’t due to the belief that kids will not tale tablets. Well my child from age 5 took the tablets. No fuss, no nasty taste and feels like a big kid taking them so just pops it in and down it goes! Wish I had i own tablets were a possibility for my older kids! Anyway just wanted to post in case anyone else has a similar issue and this might help.

My DD wouldn't take liquids full stop right from being a baby. She's sixteen now and apart from one aborted attempt where she spat the first dose out and screamed the house down she has never had calpol or antibiotics or any other liquid meds for this reason!
Thankfully she never actually needed antibiotics but some calpol would definitely have been a help on those times she was really unwell as a young child. She would just refuse, jam her mouth shut and push me away so I gave up trying. I sometimes wonder if she's the only 16 year old in the uk who has never had antibiotics or calpol! 😂

She has occasionally taken paracetamol tablets but I think she was 13 or 14 the first time I persuaded her and even now she will only take painkillers for period pain and only when it's v bad.

That should read "liquid meds". She had no problem with breast milk!

It will partly be dependent on the dose as it may not come in a tablet equivalent.

The last time we needed antibiotics we swapped to the capsules and emptied them out in jam as the liquid was so vile.
