Prefacing this by saying I'm fully aware I could be in a worse position but I'm a bit meh and wanted to vent

I recently received a bonus from work. I was obviously very happy and planned to squirrel it away for a rainy day.

Due to life it now seems that won't happen. I've had a flat tyre and a damaged kitchen appliance in the last 24 hours.

I feel like there's never chance to get ahead. DH and I earned good salaries. We're pretty frugal. I meal plan, cook at home 99% of the time. I budget for every penny!

And like I say we're not in the breadline but we have little to spare when we're not exactly living a lavish lifestyle.

It's frustrating and I really feel for those in a worse position that us as it's a real grind at times.

It's annoying and things do tend to crop up!

I was hoping to have X amount spare by this point of the month, but I've actually had to take money out of savings to cover until my next wage (in a few days time)

Hoping to hit my savings target at the end of the month though, but like you, it only takes something to go kaput and my plans go up the spout.

It’s always the way.
Our normally very reliable car has developed an intermittent fault, the garage have been great but they still have to be paid.
We need a new car really but they’re so expensive.

You're right OP - and all those annoying gits who lecture us about an "emergency fund" - I've had a great emergency fund at various points in my life and guess what happened? Fucking emergencies that's what -and you are right, it's always tricky to work your way back up.
Of course the fact that I earn less than I did in 2008 (in actual cash never mind inflation) isn't helping.

Sorry to hear you're both facing the same situation.

I had big plans and then life steps in, inevitably!!

Couple with the rising cost of living everything seems so tight these days.

We're so frugal and try to save for everything that's when I finally do think let's spend a bit it's so disheartening to see that even with all the saving etc. we're still a way off for a small family holiday for example
