To share my colonoscopy experience

I was absolutely dreading it having read some threads on here about how awful it is and having heard the same from friends and relatives.

laxatives: I opted for picolax over moviprep because I was worried I wouldn't be able to stomach a large volume of laxatives. It was a reasonably pleasant orange flavour and easy to drink with a straw in about 4 gulps, with a quick drink of juice between each gulp.

bowel prep experience: It took about an hour to kick in and then lasted 1.5hrs with some further lighter episodes a couple of hours later. It was really quite civilised, I kept thinking worse was to come but I've had worse stomach bugs to be honest.

colonoscopy: Nothing to say, no pain and all over very quickly.

recovery: Again, nothing to say. No pain, no nausea, able to eat immediately.

I hope this helps anyone who is worried like I was. I credit the positive experience to following the dietary, fluids and laxative instructions to the letter.

Thank you so much for sharing this, we only ever hear bad experiences so this is so refreshing to read

I think I'll be having one in the not too distant future so this has reassured me no end

I'm glad you had a positive experience and are feeling better

I have just had my colonoscopy today.
I spent quite a while waiting for my turn but all the staff were incredible taking my mind of it.
I spent so much energy stressing before I went and when I got there, all for nothing.
it was no problem to get it done. A male nurse was knelt beside me leaning on the bed and we talked about just everything. I had sedation but I didn’t feel like I did so was fine in recovery and couldn’t wait for my cup of tea.
Obviously the best part was knowing there was no serious problem there.
Any nerves or stress you have please rely on the amazing staff to make this a much easier experience
