To maybe want to wear makeup again

I'm mid 40s and have given up wearing make up for quite some time.
Now I don't know what make up to buy or how to wear it really. It's like starting again as a teenager. I don't want to look ridiculous. Where do I even start?

Would you go to a makeup artist, and get some nice ideas or try some things?

John Lewis will do a makeover, I bet there are other big stores that will to. My fa ourite was Mac in our local Debenhams but that's gone now

Possibly start with a good trawl of YouTube to find people who are similar age/etc to you and are getting the result you would like to achieve. They will do tutorials and list the products used and show how they apply them.

In my 40s I've embraced the toned down, no-makeup makeup look. Subtle glow, nothing heavy or powder based, minimal products!

Highly recommend trying Trinny London they have a lovely BFF De-stress serum which you can colour match and gives great buildable coverage. It's as light as a feather, so no heavy make up look but it definitely enhances and smooths out blemishes.

Thanks for the responses. Perhaps I'll go to the make up counter and see whether I can get some advice. Feels a bit alien to me to even think about make up but I have made zero effort for so long and I kind of want to now as I think I need a helping hand to look my best!
