Do most people really put this much effort into grout?

I have spent the last TWO days cleaning my grout (kitchen and bathrooms). Nightmare job with steam cleaner that has sprayed mucky water all over my walls and woodwork. My body is also done. I’m only 32 yo. And the annoying thing is it’s still not perfect as I couldn’t shift around 5% of the muck. It’s not like I’m that gross. Floors get hoovered and steam mopped every other day. I notice the water the steam mop produces just settles in the grout. Is there a solution to this?

So many people (friends and family) seem to have spotless grout. What is the secret?

We are doing a spring clean with a view to sell pretty soon. As a first time owner who has only recently cared about grout. What are most people doing? Cleaning grout regularly? Or doing big jobs now and then.

Spray cillit bang black mole remover. Wait. Wipe off. Use grout repair and restore thinly over any areas which are looking stained.

That’s what I do anyway. Doesn’t involve much elbow grease until you buff away the excess of the restorer when it’s dry.

GrrCovid · 10/04/2024 19:30

Black mould not mole.

Thank you. Will try this. How long do you leave it on for? The pink stuff took off my kitchen grout so a bit paranoid now

You can see cillit bang working immediately. It has bleach in it. The grout restorer is basically grout in a tube and a thin layer over the discoloured bits works, it will also fill in your damaged kitchen grout.

GrrCovid · 10/04/2024 19:51

Make sure you ventilate the space as you are spraying the cillit bang though - especially if it is a large area. You don’t want to be breathing it in.

And this is why when DH retires my kitchen I'm having black grout😁

Re tiles🙄

HG Mould Spray (the spray not the foam) is by far the best thing I’ve ever used on grout. It even cleans up black spots on sealant. Stinks though, open the windows first!

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/04/2024 19:54

You need Kilrock Grout Cleaner. Spray or wipe on, leave 10 mins, rinse off, job done.

hamsterchump · 10/04/2024 19:59

Nope, will only put in dark grout for this reason.

Greendoorsaremyfavourite · 10/04/2024 20:00

Another vote for Cillit Bang. I used it for the first time at the weekend and was astounded by the results!

HappiestSleeping · 10/04/2024 20:30

Once it's clean, seal it. It will make it easier to keep clean.

EveryoneJapan · 10/04/2024 20:31

Black or grey grout is the future.

LoobyDop · 10/04/2024 20:36

Don’t have white grout. My main bathroom has white metro tiles with grey grout. The only cleaning of them I do is to rinse them down with the shower head every day, and spray and wipe the bit around the basin. Looks spotless, no sign of any mould or slime.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/04/2024 20:40

If you need any scrubbing, try an old toothbrush

LightSpeeds · 10/04/2024 20:41

I use bleach.

PurpleNebula84 · 10/04/2024 20:48

Astonish mould remover (can buy it in B and M & Asda) I would say is just as good as Cillit Bang and cheaper... I no longer scrub tiles or grout. I spray it in the shower / bath and on the screen and tiles - leave it for about 15 minutes (usually works in about 5) and rinse it down. I would say it is just as good as the HG mould remover too. I get the apple one - you can still smell its bleachy, but it's not horrific.

Can you use these products on natural stone? Our floor comprises limestone slabs but I just can't keep the grout clean.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 10/04/2024 20:58

You've got some good suggestions for cleaning up. In your next place get some shower spray. Tesco own brand works just as well as Mr muscle. I had a new bathroom fitted two years ago, I've only actually cleaned the shower a handful of times, but I spray it down after every use and the grout looks as good as the day it was put in.

Pleiades2020 · 10/04/2024 22:48

Grout pen?

Infectiousdisease · 10/04/2024 22:52

Is

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/04/2024 22:56

As a PP said. Grout sealant.

changefromhr · 10/04/2024 23:02

I just spray bleach and leave.

No, use Fairy liquid and boiling hot water, and a bit of scrubbing with a brush in the bad bits.

randomchap · 10/04/2024 23:19

HG Mould Spray once a month or so in the bathroom.

Not sure I'd use it in a kitchen though as it contains bleach
