Ring 111 or go to urgent care? That's what they're here for!

QuestionableMouse · 10/04/2024 17:36

Also please do not like a chiropractor anywhere near you. They have killed people popping necks!

Moier · 10/04/2024 17:37

How are you when you clench your teeth together? Is there a clicking sound in your jaw?
I suffer TMJ.. sounds similar .
I have acupuncture for it.
If its not that.. then I'd see the GP.. you might have pulled/ trapped a nerve.

StormingNorman · 10/04/2024 17:37

Echo 111. They’ll let you know whether you need to go to A&E to get it checked.

Mayflower282 · 10/04/2024 17:38

Sounds like you’ve strained it. I get this sometimes when I pick the kids up (and the oldest is 10 🙄) Only thing that helps is rest.

MoonWoman69 · 10/04/2024 17:40

I've done this! You've pulled a muscle! I went to the doctor and she said paracetamol every 4 hours and it would take 6 weeks to get right. And she was right. But don't go by my word, if you're worried please go see your GP. Wishing you well 🌺

Ice pack for 20 mins, but could it be a disc problem? You will need prescription painkillers like naproxen and strong 30/500 cocodamol. You might need diazepam too. Do you have a walk in centre ?

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/04/2024 17:50

I would go to urgent care or A&E. This could be caused by a number of injuries.

Following that, a good physio - private if you can afford it.

I had a bulging spinal disc and the physio truly worked wonders with it.

Mummabear310 · 10/04/2024 17:50

Can’t put ice pack or warm water bottle near it the pain is just shooting all inside my ear and down my jaw! My teeth don’t hurt when clenched, can drink normally etc can’t eat though as the pain is just something else!! I have the 30/500 co codamol. Absolutely horrendous pain! I can’t talk on the phone the pain is just unbearable right now!

The pop or the crunch felt like it was in my tooth when it happened but the instant pain started in my ear !

@Mummabear310 please go to urgent care or A&E urgently!

Pain that bad needs checking out.

Also, remember, pain can be referred- so while you feel pain the jaw area, it could well be caused by something like a slipped disc.

ASeagulStoleMyIceCream · 10/04/2024 17:54

You could have cracked a bone. I agree you need 111 for this, not mumsnet!

QuestionableMouse · 10/04/2024 17:58

Pain without a known cause and that doesn't respond to painkillers is an emergency.

You need to been seen tonight. Go to urgent care/A&E or call 111.

This.

You need to be seen right away. Don't waste time with 111.

Grendacious · 10/04/2024 18:02

Ignore the people saying you've strained a muscle. I mean, hopefully you have, but it could also be more serious things that need urgent attention. Hopefully you're on your way to a&e already.

PurpleBugz · 10/04/2024 18:05

I have similar pain from issues with my spine. Sounds a bit like nerve pain if shooting? Like you slipped a disk or something similar. In which case codamol won't help you need nerve pain drugs or at least anti inflammatory but the nerve pain drugs take weeks to build up enough to work then hopefully you will be better. I would give it a couple days if you can bear it/sleep on it and if no improvement tomorrow go urgent care- gp won't be much help you will need an MRI to know what exactly is going on I've waited months going via GP with symptoms getting progressively worse. Couple years ago it was so bad I did go A&E and they did MRI diagnosed what I have gave a prescription and sent me on my way. Symptoms getting worse all the time and over 9 months waiting on referrals via GP. All the GP can do is prescribe tramadol which doesn't actually help the pain but gets me high enough I can just about cope.

My advice is based on if this is a trapped/pinched nerve as that's similar to my experience and I'm not medically qualified

ToffeePennie · 10/04/2024 18:07

111 it sounds like when I get torticollis. Bloody painful 20/10 pain. Please go see the drs

Ridiculous24 · 12/04/2024 18:27

How are you?

justasking111 · 12/04/2024 18:31

My son did this. It was agony. He had a scan which confirmed an issue in C2 C3 I think.

PostItInABook · 12/04/2024 18:40

Severe, shooting pain may indicate nerve damage. Get yourself checked out
