Legoland driving licence

The highlight of going to Legoland as a kid is getting you driving licence. Got mine 25ish years ago, older 2 DCs got theirs a few years ago and expected to get the youngest DC theirs when we went this week.

But at some point in the last 5 years, Legoland have decided to stop handing out the little bit of card that you put your own photo on, and instead, charge £12.99 to have it "look more realistic". No cheaper option for the old bit of card.

AIBU

a) The old card was absolutely fine (and more environmentally friendly)

b) £12.99 is extortionate!

c) There could at least be a cheaper option for those that don't want the fancy printed plastic card and lanyard. I'd pay a quid or 2 for a card one. Even £5 at a stretch for their photo printed on card.

My DD has a plastic card, very like my driving licence, from years ago. It sits very proudly in her memory box, despite being a teenager.

It was included in the price of the "driving school"

Scan your old one.

Cut out the photo and insert new photo and name.

Print out.

Stick on card.

Put fingers in ears when kid says "it's not real".

@GasPanic

If I had known, there are cheaper options easily available online (£3.50 on etsy and far more realistic!).

It's the being blindsided that has annoyed me. And no avoiding it as the kiosk is at the exit. Free to £12.99 is quite a jump!

Is that really "the highlight" of Legoland?
I would have thought being let loose in the Lego Store that's there is much more fun 🤔
But - I agree. £12 is quite a lot when you've already paid the entrance fee.

Standard tactic I have seen before (no idea whether this is like it) Family gets sucked in and kid gets invested. Then parent looks horrible if they try to back out without stumping up the cash. Pester power is real.

I would probably just be thankful I didn't get ambushed for the other 3 and amortise the cost over 4x.

Or get more inventive with your distraction plays.

"Oh dear, the licence machine has run out of licences. Quick lets get to the restaurant before they run out of chips".

And probably pay another £12.99 for chips! 🤣🤣
