Holidays, periods & illness

I need some advice as this situation has started to make me not want to go on holiday anymore. In the past 2/3 years everytime I go on holiday, whether its for a weekend city break, longer holiday in the UK or abroad or back 'home', I get my period. Even if its not due. So I last had my period about 15 days ago and I have started it again. Along with my period I get awful stomach cramps, very heavy bleeding and clots. Every time I'm on holiday and I start my period the first two days are awful. I get the sweats and my whole body feels like it is super heavy and I jave to stay in bed. Then I start to get ill. Usually a very heavy cough resulting in a chest infection. In October 2023 we went to Mallorca and I didn't shift the cough till Feb this year and now I'm back to a hacking cough and chest infection again. It's doesn't matter what the weather is like. I'm 46 and probably peri menopausal if that makes any difference. Does anyone else experience this?

Just for context I did add this to the health board but I didn't get any responses.

Thanks in advance.

I don't get the periods but I do tend to have a few days unwell when I get a break from work. You would be advised to contact your doctor as they can provide you with medication to keep periods at bay during inconvenient times.

That sounds terrible.

I recently learned that it really is worth to plan our holidays around my periods, even if it means missing on the cheapest flights/not optimalspacing from other events, but at least it can be planned.
It sounds your body hates changes.

Is your job very stressful? I've not experienced anything similar myself but my DM (who was a teacher) used to experience intense and debilitating migraines the moment the school holidays kicked in, which used to cause her to be bed bound for at least 2 or 3 days. I don't have a solution for you, but just wondered whether it could be stress related? Could you perhaps try some period delay medication?

Thanks for all your comments so far. I do have a very stressful job. I work in a school.

Thanks. I have tried these but the problem is I don't expect my period as its totally out of synch when I go on holiday!

Can you get a coil fitted? That was one of the issues that prompted me to get mine. I still get ill every holiday unfortunately, but I don't get periods any more so one less thing to worry about.
