Vinted seeker broke item and got full refund!!

I'm raging! I sent a vintage 1970s duffle coat to a buyer. They raised an issue when it arrived and said that when they tried it on they broke one of the leather toggles so wanted a refund. I asked vinted to look at it, as the buyer clearly says that they broke the toggle, but vinted gave them the refund!! So now there's a damaged coat coming back to me and no money or chance to resell it.

I had worn it a few times and hadn't felt like any of the toggles were closed to breaking. Is they anything I can do as it arrived in perfect condition and they said they broke it!

Appeal to Vinted, especially if you have a good history. Everything is in favour of the seller but worth a try.

I dont know if I paid for an expensive coat and the second I went to try it on something broke I'd be fuming. So it's a tricky one. Although they broke it why should it break so easily?

CormorantStrikesBack · 09/04/2024 09:51

Can you not replace the toggle? Maybe it was brittle with age?

Vinted are so shit.

Same here TBF. I buy and sell a lot on vinted and honestly I think it's right that they side with the buyer some of the time.
I've bought stuff that's arrived stinking or damaged and the seller denies it. Why should I be out of pocket?

MariaDingbat · 09/04/2024 13:14

It wasn't sold as an expensive coat, it was a £45 1970s wool duffle coat. It was sent in great vintage condition but vintage means you need to be aware of it's age. I had used the toggles and they worked fine, I never felt they were close to breaking. They looked like they photo below so I have no idea if they can even be replaced.

If the coat had been sent broken then absolutely the buyer is due a refund, but the buyer admits to breaking the coat. Surely I can't be responsible for what happens after it arrives in great condition?

Its a tricky one, would you be happy putting a coat on for the first time and it breaks? But I also understand it wasn't broke when it left you.

Serene135 · 09/04/2024 15:56

Maybe not the best suggestion but can you sew it?

JMSA · 09/04/2024 18:06

They could have said it arrived like that, but at least they've been honest. They probably didn't expect it to break so easily or quickly though.
It's bad luck for you though. Sorry OP Sad
