Was asked to send a photo to the GP, they say it’s not and want to prescribe anti fungal cream. I said it looks exactly like when my son had it before. I’ve kept him off school today, but they’ve said he’s fine to attend tomorrow.

Doesn't look like impetigo, more like lip lick dermatitis. I would smother in baseline if a licker and allow school.

CammyChameleon · 08/04/2024 14:14

My son recently had this but worse, I worried it was impetigo and kept him off to go to the pharmacist, who told me it was his skin drying out due to licking/drooling and to smother it with vaseline as much as possible. We did this and it turned itself around, there are still some dry bits but it's much more easy to tell it's just dry skin.

KreedKafer · 08/04/2024 14:47

That doesn't look like impetigo to me. Just looks like a minor patch of dermatitis or chapped skin from licking his lips or chewing/sucking on something.

Froggy99 · 08/04/2024 14:49

I don’t think it’s impetigo, a barrier cream would probably help. It just looks sore and dry.

Nicetobenice67 · 08/04/2024 14:51

Really doesn’t look like impetigo.>pop into a chemist and let them take a look good luck try not to worry looks more like chap

KimberleyClark · 08/04/2024 14:54

Impetigo is usually crusty? That doesn’t look crusty to me.

Tempnamechng · 08/04/2024 14:57

It looks as though its bubbling, so I would see a pharmacist just in case. Do it quickly, as if it's impetigo it'll need quick treatment. Make sure you don't let him touch the area and wash hands regularly.

Munchyseeds2 · 08/04/2024 14:57

Impetigo normally has yellow crusting I think

Tempnamechng · 08/04/2024 14:58

From when one of mine had it, the yellow crusting happened once the blisters had dried.
