Staying home all day with 2 toddlers

Having a lot of mum guilt today. Currently 36 weeks pregnant and really struggling with pain and dizziness. I have a 3 and 1 year old and the last week or so I just can’t get out of the house with them easily. I’ve still taken them to the odd playgroup or to soft play but it’s just too much right now. Is that awful if I just stay home with them and let them play in the garden instead of going out to proper places? How much going out at this age is enough?

It’s not bad at all OP! It’s important imo to not keep your children busy constantly. Downtime and letting them get bored and find things to entertain themselves is needed.

Of course it’s not bad for kids to stay home and play in their garden for a few days!

Many of us had kids that age during Covid lockdowns!

KatieKat88 · 08/04/2024 11:19

Of course not, you need to rest!

I’m on the sofa under a blanket and my kids are on the trampoline and Switch.

Sounds fine to me.

Not at all, infact healthy for them to find their own fun sometimes! If you don't already have a sand pit, I'd advise investing in one ready for babies arrival. One of those cheap plastic shell ones. My 2 year old uses hers so much and gives me time to chill with a cuppa in the garden.

I had a 6, 4 and 1 year old in lockdown so all they did for months was play in the bloody garden! Don’t think it’s done them any lasting harm.
They’ll be fine. They don’t need big days out. Take it easy!

My lovely, I personally found being heavily pregnant with 1 toddler harder than with a newborn. You are absolutely fine to potter at home as much as you need, even that's a lot with 2 at this stage.

ColleenDonaghy · 08/04/2024 11:27

Christ OP, 3 and 1 nearly killed me and that was with nursery. I think 3 and 1 at home plus pregnancy would've sent me over the edge.

Just get through the day, whatever that looks like. They'll be fine. Getting out helps my sanity, but they're fine without it.

Reread your OP. If you're suffering with pain and dizziness is there anyone who can come over and help you out and have you spoken to your midwife? I'd be worried about you being solely responsible for 2 little ones feeling like that.

OP - You’re a hero! Anyone pregnant with 2 toddlers deserves a medal.

If anything I’d avoid softplays and playgroups. I took DS4 to softplay a week before giving birth and picked up the worst cold. Really regretted not just staying indoors.

Congrats on the new baby and good luck with the birth x
