Is this a stupid idea? Writing a memoir TW abuse

TW sexual abuse

I was groomed and then abused by a family member for years as a child.
I reported this to the police a couple of years ago and it is about to go to court. I have found it therapeutic to write this down as I memories I had suppressed were in my head constantly.

Recently I’ve been wondering if I should try and publish this? I know authors often don’t make much money at all but any little amount would make me feel as though something good has come out of it all.

I don’t know where to start. Any tips for an idiots guide for how I get something like this published?

I would wait for the court to finish first. You can then either approach publishing agents with the manuscript (large publishers very rarely work with independent writers anymore) or self-publish on amazon or similar.

You should not attempt to publish anything until the court case is over.

When the court case is over, you can look for literary agents who represent memoir writers. They will have submission guidelines on their websites which will specify what you need to send to them eg. the first three chapters plus cover letter, for example.

In the meantime, you could edit and polish what you have to give yourself the best chance.

Do consider how you will feel making your personal story public and what support you have in place.

Good luck!
