WWYD - commissioned portrait artist not responding

2.5 years ago I commissioned a portrait and paid 50% deposit. The artist is the wife of an old friend of mine I saw her work as he shared some on Facebook. It was a few months before she finished. I wanted some changes and we agreed a video call, but we were both quite busy and then I had a baby and didn’t think about it for a while. The artist subsequently has had huge success and international recognition and clearly is inundated with work and I imagine her prices are now x 10 what I paid. I follow her instagram. I’ve messaged her several times saying don’t worry re changes, can I just pay balance and have the picture. She’s not responded. I imagine that either my painting has been lost or is stored somewhere not easily accessible or has been lost or sold and it wouldn’t be worth her time to do me a new piece for the agreed price. I really love her work. I’d also like to get a new piece and would be happy to pay going rate. Should I contact her husband my old friend? She has a show coming up soon I could perhaps contact through the gallery? WWYD?

I'd contact your friend, her husband and say you've tried contacting her numerous times to no avail and that you'd like to collect the painting. Depending what you paid, if you get no response I'd consider small claims court. I wouldn't contact via gallery as nothing to do with them unless there's an exhibition launch event you could attend and put her on the spot face to face. You have a contract and she's not delivering her part.
