First date night for ten years and the effing trains are on strike again…

Just what it says really.

DH travels for work, we have two SEN kids, no local family and there was that lockdown thing that really put a dampener on going out/family life. Obvs been some marital strain during this time too (one of my kids regularly ODs on OTC meds/self-harms). We lost two very close friends in the last few years too, one through cancer, the other the victim of a lousy drink/drugged driver who didn’t stop and so we decided it was time to start ‘living’ again and carve out space for ourselves as individuals and as a couple.

Anyway, I bought tickets to a play in London with Johnny Lee Miller (I love the theatre but it’s so effing expensive) and booked a table at a thai place nearby. Was very excited, as is DH (whose only disappointment is that whilst I can still drink like a fish, the day after is hell post-menopause, so - no, won’t be going large on the cocktails.) I booked a dog walker to wear out the spaniels and make it easy for 16yo (revising for GCSEs) to manage them from noon until 10pm ish; older MH-challenged kiddo just has to be present and order dominoes.

And… wouldn’t you know it, effing bloody ASLEF are striking again!!! We are going to have to drive 20miles out of our way to a station that appears to have trains running or take a £40 hit on a taxi each way, if we can get one. Am trying not to give in to feeling pissed off as I sit waiting for my Clairol no 5 mid brown hair colour to take but…. Really??!!!!!

AIBU to just wish ASLEF/Govt et al would just sort out their lives so that I can have a tiny bit of mine back??

YANBU. I usually support strikers but they’ve been at it ages and their wages are not bad at all.

@GoodnightAdeline that's my issue I think - feels like a decade of strikes, engineering works, leaves on the line... wish they'd just get it sorted.
Not enough women in charge, I think!
