Help! Lost in Heathrow T5 - have you seen bunny?

TeaAndTrifle · 06/04/2024 01:20

I am posting this in AIBU for traffic, in case there is a very small chance anyone has seen this bunny and picked her up as I have run out of ideas. On Saturday 30th March between about 7-9pm my daughter lost her beloved bunny toy somewhere airside in Heathrow Terminal 5. We noticed just as our plane was leaving for a 13 hour flight. We’re not due back for another week. It had an AirTag on it but the battery was very low and stopped tracking 3 days ago (still showing in the terminal). Whether that was because the battery ran out or for another reason I don’t know.

We’ve called lost property and spoken to them every day but she hasn’t been found. They have her picture and will call us if they see her. We even bought a one way plane ticket so my FIL could clear security and go on a hunt for her yesterday, retrace our steps and speak to everyone in the shops etc but so far we’re not having any success. The AirTag can’t be pinged now so probably should have done that a few days ago.

I’m really not sure that there’s anything else we can do but she is one of the family and I have to try every avenue. There’s no replacement for bunny. She’s a medium cream Jellycat bunny, so although you can buy them in the shops/she has some others her original bunny is very loved (more grey now than cream!) and so it’s not the same at all. She’s had her 8 years, since the day she was born.

I know other seemingly lost toys have been found through the power of mumsnet so although I know how unlikely it is I’m posting on the off chance someone might have seen her, have any bright ideas or be able to share her picture elsewhere that may be able to track her down. I’m in Asia for another week so a bit limited in being able to message or do much so apologies if I can’t reply much.

This is a picture of her wearing the same red flowery dress I made her.

Thank you everyone ❤️

Oh, I hope bunny is found OP! Nearly had a similar disaster when at the boarding gate with our then toddler. Thankfully bear was found before we got on the flight, but only because a couple of airport staff ran off to retrace our steps and found him. I'm hoping your little girl gets her beloved bunny back. x

Isthisexpected · 06/04/2024 02:28

Good luck! It's so horrible when something sentimental gets lost.

JustJoinedRightNow · 06/04/2024 03:41

Good Luck OP. I'm flying into Heathrow next week but not sure I'll be any help coming into arrivals. Still, I'll keep my eyes peeled just in case.

NoTeaNoShade · 06/04/2024 03:47

Sorry to hear this OP. Can you give us a rundown of your movements, ie, did you transit the north or south security channel? Visit any shops/restaurants/duty free? What gate, ie, A, B or C? Any lounges? I know your FIL has done this for you already (God love him) but there might be other avenues to explore.

Really hoping bunny is found for your little one.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 06/04/2024 03:56

Were you in any of the stores that sell soft toys? It's possible someone saw her, picked her up and put her in with other bunnies.

TeaAndTrifle · 06/04/2024 03:58

Thank you everyone I know it's an impossible shot but thought I would try. I'll post the info I laid out for my FIL.

The numbers relate to the official Heathrow map, mainly pages 3 and 4

https://www.heathrow.com/content/dam/heathrow/web/common/documents/transport/HeathrowT55_Map.pdf

My DH has lounge access +1 due to his BA status but my DD and I weren't bothered about going (or paying for a different lounge) as we wanted to shop and happy to eat elsewhere instead. So he was with DS there for about 90 minutes while we were on our travels.

We got to the airport and through security (counter was at the far south end the “world traveller” counter, we actually went through priority security. We know Bunny was here as the check in staff were very nice and looked at Bunny’s passport.

1st floor (top floor)

  • walking north the first shop we went to was in “inmotion”, the kids played on iPads. [no. 10 on map]
  • then the sunglasses shop opposite inmotion, slightly on the right as you leave inmotion [no 18 we think on map] it was a dedicated sunglasses shop. We were mainly in the Ralph Lauren section and walked to the counter. The kids remember seeing Bunny last here
  • Then walked all the way north to the Harry Potter shop (then DH/DS went to the lounge). [no.5 on map] (not the one next to inmotion)
  • me and DD then had dinner in Giraffe. [no.6 on map]
We sat as you go in, on the right. My DD was on a bench and I was on a chair.

Downstairs (escalator by Harry Potter shop)

  • Went downstairs immediately into the boots [no. 2 on map]
  • walked north east to the female toilets by the A gates (very start of the A numbers) [no.55]
  • Walked south to W H Smiths [no.52]. Bought magazines and some sweets.
  • Walked south to world of duty (on both sides two main duty free shops) [no.41 and no.15] (not the one next to W H Smith at north) looked at the Aesop stuff and Ralph Lauren perfume
  • Then walked back north to the seating upstairs outside the Harry Potter shop.

Upstairs again

  • went back into the Harry Potter shop again [No.5]

Downstairs again

  • Met up with DH/DS, we all walked south, followed the signs for gate B34. Took the lifts down to the train. [between no. 38 and no.35]

Information desk is near no.36 I think.

Lost property is downstairs ground side by arrivals at the very north end.

Did you go to the toilet? Would explain why FIL couldn't find it as he wouldn't have entered the ladies.

merrymelodies · 06/04/2024 05:22

Oh I do hope bunny is found! 🥺

Chouette77 · 06/04/2024 08:35

Oh no, I hope you find her. You could try posting on this forum (link below), Dara got his teddy back that way.

Thank you for that link! I've just posted on that and it's waiting approval although as I'm a new to the forum I wasn't allowed to post a photo. I suppose it's not everyday you find a bunny so here is hoping.

A lovely mumsnet reader is going to check out the toilets etc tomorrow as my father in law wouldn't have been able to go there. Fingers crossed.

I know it doesn’t help you but as soon as your child shows a liking for any toy buy at least one more and then swap them out regularly so they all wear at the same rate. If one gets lost then you have at least one spare.

That is a great idea and one we tried to follow but didn't swap them out enough which is how we've ended up with Sister Bunny, Mummy Bunny, Daddy Bunny etc etc!!

Oh I wish I had seen this a couple of days ago, I flew out of terminal 5 and had a couple of hours to kill. I hope you find her.

TeaAndTrifle · 06/04/2024 12:11

This was the last time the airtag pinged. I'm not sure if because it ran out of battery or if in a non-connectable area.

I'm so invested in this, please let's find it!

FrancisSeaton · 06/04/2024 14:13

Hopefully bunny is just having a short break and will be back with you soon 🤞🏻

PinkyFlamingo · 06/04/2024 14:17

I hope you find it. It's horrible. My son was older but was very attached to Foxy, which we bought in the Grand Canyon. A few years ago I think it fell out the car in the south France ....that made for a very pleasant journey back to Calais when we realised!

SparklyBracelet · 06/04/2024 14:18

Was at T5 early last month so am aware of its vastness. Fingers crossed for the return of your adorable bunny 🤞🐇

LookingforBunny · 07/04/2024 16:31

@TeaAndTrifle I’m sorry not to have good news for you. In T5 this morning, I asked in Giraffe (spoke to manager who looked in their cupboards and also remembered your FIL, said if anything was found they have to hand it in to airport lost property for security reasons), also checked Harry Potter shop, the female toilets by A block (I asked the cleaner there and she sadly hadn’t seen bunny but also said that anything they find is sent to lost property), Boots, WHSmith, World of Duty duty free, and Inmotion. I showed your photo of bunny and they said to keep trying the official lost property office. Took lift down to train to B gates and nothing around the same gate numbers you mentioned (was coincidentally flying out of B gates too). Am so sorry, was really hoping to have good news for you today.

TeaAndTrifle · 07/04/2024 16:59

You are so so kind to have tried all of that. Thank you. Bunny might not be found yet but the kindness of strangers is amazing x

It's very cute! Some kids probably spotted it and their parent has let them have it without any consideration for anyone else! Really common unfortunately 🙄 hope you get a miracle though!

LeonoraFlorence · 10/04/2024 23:22

I really hope you get her back. We also tried the ‘spares’ but DDs all have one in particular they adore.

Twofifty · 10/04/2024 23:28

What a gorgeous bunny! I hope she finds her way home.
