DS (16) has autism and severe learning difficulties, He has been unwell all week, cough cold sleeping all the time and off his food. I was getting concerned yesterday and was going to call the GP this morning but he seemed better, sods law this afternoon he is worse!!! My money is on it being a chest infection needing antibiotics. I phoned the GP at 4pm and they said to bring him down at 5:30..........they have their faults but are always amazing with ds.

Lucky you is all I can say!

BettyShagter · 05/04/2024 16:57

That's great OP.

My GP has got much better since it went into special measures. It's much easier to get an appointment.

Hope your DS is better soon Flowers

Nice to hear a positive GP story for once! Can't relate unfortunately, ours is shocking.

NoblyBobly · 05/04/2024 16:59

All of the others in my area are shocking. This practice isn't perfect but they get a lot of things right.

Mine is great too.

LostCats · 05/04/2024 17:09

Mine are wonderful too I must say. Been struggling with severe rheumatoid arthritis flare. Eventually got that I just wanted to cry to someone who wasn’t my husband. Messaged saying I was very down due to flare (have been speaking to them about pain killers for it for weeks). Expected an appointment in a few weeks. Got a call saying they had an appointment for me at 3.40. Dr has arranged for me to be referred to a special unit for injection for the flare and further referrals. Still trying to pick myself up off the floor from shock! Was only at most hoping for a kind listening ear!!

I feel lucky reading MN sometimes, ours are pretty good really. I called the other day late morning with a suspected UTI expecting to be told to wait and see, but they told me to wander down and give a sample, then called me mid afternoon to prescribe antibiotics. They respond within 24 hours to e-consults and are often happy to prescribe through them, which saves a lot of time. And even in COVID they saw one of the DC when they had a very odd looking skin tag.

If anything, the move to more online services has made ours better.

SpinningTopps · 05/04/2024 17:17

Mine is really really good. Feel very lucky. Without fail I can phone through, speak to someone within about 10 minutes and always end up with the kids being seen the same day. It's usually about 2 or 3 hours from initial phone call to seeing a doctor.

BingoMarieHeeler · 05/04/2024 17:18

Why would that be unreasonable? Mine’s brilliant too. Lucky us.

vincettenoir · 05/04/2024 17:20

Mine are pretty good too.

domineastronomy · 05/04/2024 17:25

I have a great gp practice too! So lucky.

peloton2024 · 05/04/2024 18:04

Mine has been brilliant

Last one missed my blood disorder for 8 years

New one is excellent, I can ring at 9am and get an appointment, prescriptions are instant, and they referred me for possible endo when the last surgery just shrugged and said painful periods are normal

Supersares · 05/04/2024 18:08

Since Covid our GP has been amazing too, honestly can’t complain at all. If it’s nothing they need to see you for physically, you can always get a same day telephone appointment. It’s a rural practice if that makes any difference as I know someone who lives in a city and has to wait for ages for an appointment.

NoblyBobly · 05/04/2024 18:24

He has a chest infection. So glad I phoned.
