Anyone believe in coincidences?

Today was odd.
I went for lunch with my child and noticed a handsome man.
They left . We left soon after .
I let him pull out of his parking space ten mins later . We waved .
I met him then in a shop . We had a brief exchange .
Then I met him on the beach and he shouted over ...' hey how are you ?'
I replied in a friendly way.
I've never met him before , never seen him before and yet afterwards waved to each other while driving a few times.
Thoroughly odd or am I being weird here ??

Well of course there are coincidences! You've just had a couple.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/04/2024 00:08

I mean you were both spending time in the same area and you noticed he was hot so we're more inclined to notice him again and again
I suppose for it to be more than a coincidence, for this to be fate telling you he's the one, you'd need to meet in a load of different random places over a larger time scale.

ChedderGorgeous · 02/04/2024 00:09

Is this a reverse?

snakhsasra · 02/04/2024 00:10

I'm not a fool whatsoever but I did find it odd !!! At one stage he said, we must stop meeting line this !
Just had never happened me before !

Funnily enough they asked him in the shop 🏬 f he was going g to have kids as he was treating them , he said he didn't know and the youngest said .. mummy says you are having fun trying 😂😂😂 I laughed. Quietly, he saw me and was mortified but laughed .

I was born on the exact day my DH’s father died. DH was 2 when his DF died.
I am from a different part of the country and ended up here, where DH was born and bred because of my job.
My DH’s DF died after developing an infection in his heart (endocarditis) after having a tooth removed. My job, a dentist.

I only found out after we had been seeing each other for 12mnths and on my birthday ( also DH’s stepfathers birthday). We were visiting SFIL and DH warned me that MIL may be a bit quiet and explained why.

Yes, I look out for them all the time, I think of them as little signs that I'm going in the right direction even if I can't see it at that moment. They make my heart happy.

Both my grandmothers were born on the same day. One has a father and a brother, with the same names as the brother and the father of the other, and one both have another brother with the same name as the other's husband. They lived 100s of miles apart and never met.

Does that make sense! Or let me put it like this with fake names.

Granny 1 is called Mary. She was born on 1st Jan 1924. Her father is called Tom, and she has a brother called David and a brother called Simon. She married James

Granny 2 is called Jane. She was born on 1st Jan 1924. Her father is called David and she has a brother called Tom. She has another brother called James and married Simon

For my 21st my mum bought me a sewing machine. It has lasted well. It has travelled all over the country with me. I am now settled in Devon. It developed a problem so I found a mechanic who did work in his garage. Took the machine to him and during the conversation he mentioned that he had lived in the town where I grew up. Turned out it was he who had sold me the machine 50yrs ago.

Coincidences happen all the time! I agree you were just noticing each other because you fancy each other - if it had been an average woman, your paths would've crossed the same number of times but you wouldn't have registered the coincidences.

Watch out if his path keeps on & on crossing with yours, though. It happened with XH2; I eventually realised he was following me. That said, it sounds like you'd be quite pleased with another chance meeting, so I hope you get it and his phone number!

These just seem like some random events. I don’t see the big connection.

Yes, it’s like when you learn a new word for the first time. And then see that new word everywhere

How was he on his own and with his nephews etc?

ZoeCM · 02/04/2024 01:43

Of course coincidences happen! It would actually be much, much stranger if there were no coincidences at all.

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 02/04/2024 02:42

You can't "believe" in coincidence. It literally just means two things happened at the same time.

snakhsasra · 02/04/2024 09:27

I meant he didn't have a partner with him.
I guess I was asking if you believe in the fate/ relevance aspect of coincidence ?

Most of the coincidences I can think of in my life have had absolutely no subsequent consequences- they're just random coincidence.

Sometimes, something that seems coincidental could have an underlying reason I suppose. We're good at spotting 'patterns' - sometimes there's not really anything there, sometimes there is. Nothing to do with 'fate', certainly nothing 'woo' about it.

Re: noticing things; there's a silver hatch back car round here with a black bonnet. I see it while driving about ALL the time! But the thing is there are loads of other silver hatch backs and i probably see them all the time as well but because this one has a black bonnet i recognise it.

You noticed the bloke in other places that day because you thought he was hansom. If he hadn't have been part of the group you probably wouldn't have been on here saying

''oh there was this mother and her kids and i saw her at the shop, the carpark AND the beach !!!!''

I often bump into my DD2's father in law in Tesco. There's no deeper meaning to it - it just means we both have a boring life we're both often in the same place ...
