Hi all,

sadly I’ve been diagnosed with a very serious end of life stage 4 diagnosis

I’m a healthy looking 39 year old woman , single mum of two teenage sons

I previously had a house of my own in a beautiful area (outskirts of London) and a great successful career (make up artistry/ beauty/ holistics)
I also had another small business training dogs , taking care of animals etc (plus lots of activism etc)
I had to walk away from all of this as the H and father of our boys was quite simply a monster (only because my boys begged me I dropped charges and he never got in trouble for his heinous acts)

I had to flee and start from scratch .. I now rent an apartment.. private extortionate rent and it’s actually nearly double than whet my mortgaged house was!

Now I’ve been signed off work.. I have tried to rent a room to start my holistic massage therapies and invested a lot of money in the medical couches and all the materials not to mention on going courses and ‘refresher courses’ and my insurances etc
I desperately want to work (plus I NEED to work) I am not making my extortionate rent (it’s eye watering the costs) because of my serious illness I’ve been placed on a ‘bidding system’ to get an affordable flat to live in but I’m at the bottom of the priority list and even a gentleman from the council said ‘good luck with ever getting a place - more chance you’ll win the lotto!’

In the meantime (and with my illness a day of just going out or say a day of work will knock me for six for at least 48 hours and I just sleep and sleep )
is there ANYTHING I could do from home?
I’ve tried in the past to do Neals Yard and Tropics and while I love the company and products and stance (ethical / vegan / animal cruelty free) I detest the selling pressure .. I don’t want to ‘hassle ‘ people to buy .. it’s just not for me

is there any such company similar but not ‘multi selling marketing’?

Would you advise me to set up my huge lovely living room with glass windows from the floor to ceilings and balcony etc .. to make it completely blitzed and set up my medical couch/therapy table and get some business cards and promote on social media and have clients come for treatments?

I’m not particularly good at any WFH jobs that are ‘office’ types purely because I’ve never worked in an office in my life! And anything even admin is completely out of my comfort zone! I’ve always been creative , customer facing , very personable (people of all ages and different walks of life always reach out to me to me for ‘advice’ I don’t know why as I haven’t yet got my own life in order!)

But if anyone has any words of advice or wisdom please hurl them this way
Thank you for reading these ramblings ☺️

  • if there’s a certain ‘talk’ section this should be moved to then I’m happy for MN headquarters’ to move me along or any of the lovely mn commenters to advise me I’ll move it to another page/secrion / thread (apologies - new to this)

I haven't any ideas, just want to say I'm sorry this is happening and offer some sympathy, for whatever that's worth across the world. (No I'm not stalking you from the other thread, I was shocked when I saw this one!)

Thank you Cats! Your words of kindness really mean a lot to me especially as this is my fifth night of zero sleep and I have family coming over soon and I’m panicking and have just ran out of morphine too 😫 so I thank you ☺️

Hi OP,

I'm so, so sorry to hear of your illness. Life can be so desperately cruel.

In your position I would absolutely try setting up in your living room in the first instance. See how it goes, whether you get the clients etc. It's not easy living in your workspace but I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages ...no additional rent, no travel etc

However please do check your rental agreement to see if you are allowed to run a business from home. If you're not try to speak to the landlord and explain your situation.

Again, I'm so sorry. You have been through so much already. Please keep posting here as although people can't help you physically we can listen. Take care x

Ah OP I'm so pleased it helped, if only a little. A very wise person once said to me that when things in life are too big and too bad and can't be 'cured', enough good tiny things, if added up together, can create some kind of quality of life. Wishing that lots of those things come your way x
